How could you survive in a world being terraformed for an alien species? Better than, bigger than, tougher than, humans?
on 27 February 2014
Red dust fills the air. Shortly after the dust appears, the humans covered shift to monsters. The heroine,a journalist, is immune to the effects. She's the only human being left in New York City. She uses the social networking sites to try and find others. This begins what I like best about the book: what, really, could you do if you were left alone in a major city? She goes on Facebook and leaves her telephone number. She's called and sets out on her trek north, where the aliens have more difficulty in surviving. She can't drive, so she gets on her bike. (Well, not her old bike, the one she's been saving for… it's not really looting if money has no value and everybody is dead.)
She sets off for the Arctic Circle and learns a lot along the way. If you've ever read SF and daydreamed about how you'd cope, you'll love this.
