I bought this book as a present. It was received with great pleasure. Quirky and different - a definite must-have.

Ordered this book blind as a present for my daughter. I was surprised by the size of it, it is quite a weighty large book. I was a bit disappointed that it was cellophane wrapped so I could not peek. However, it was worth the wait. It is a beautifully produced book with brilliant examples of Ralph Steadman's quirky view of life. Not for bedtime reading (too heavy) but to enjoy sitting at a table with coffee and biscuits.

This book is a must for all bird lovers. The art work is stunning, funny and exquisite all at the same time. The book is informative and it makes you feel sad that so many of the world's beautiful birds will not be seen again or are in danger of disappearing in the not too distant future. This makes a wonderful Christmas present - something that will be kept for a long long time. Get this "Boid in your hand" before stocks run out. Fantastic.

Mr. Steadman not only stands with the poet in naming prowess, but also indeed calls them into splatted and blotted being — Lesser-blotted Bitwing, Needless Smut, Spundwick’s Fret, Quink. Splindwif, Gasp, Yerk, Thronk and Thrisp.
