This arrived in three days on free delivery. The drive comes in a plain cardboard box, with the drive, a user guide for Windows 98 and a mini CD (not sure these will work in vertical CD drives as it may need a spindle to hold it in place).
Out of the box and plugged into a (new but basic) Windows 7 computer and the device was recognised and the driver installed automatically in under 4 seconds. It reads HD 1.44MB floppy disks recorded in 2001 and not used since with no problem and equally writes to them (the box says it will work with 720kB disks too). It needs to install the driver for every usb port but that is no hardship. The only glitch is that drive does not show up in the navigation pane of Windows 7 Explorer. It is there though, but it's necessary to click Computer and then double click the A drive when the icon for it comes up.
The drive works equally well on an 18 month old XP netbook. Detected as a Teac drive (so a recognisable pedigree), it was installed in a few seconds. By this stage, being curious, I dug out an old 1999 Windows 98 laptop. Following the user guide I loaded up the mini CD, plugged the floppy drive in the usb port, the computer detected it and then searched for and found the driver, installed it and guess what? Works perfectly, showing up as drive D: in Windows Explorer, so no conflict with the original A: drive floppy. Remarkable. I can't vouch for Vista.
The device has four glued on rubber feet and can be safely stacked on top of a usb hard drive for instance. It works at the speed of floppy disks, so not fast, but that's the disk technology not the device.
Does what it says and at a bargain price. Highly recommended.

I am running XP I plugged in the drive to my usb and it worked perfectly.

This external floppy disk drive is perfect for those who, like me, have been using old computers which cannot write CDs so all their work is on floppy disks, and have now acquired a brand new shiny laptop with no facility to read them. The product does just what it is intended for and has worked perfectly so far.
Any faults? As usual the main faults are in the User's Guide. The list of Shipping items includes a carrying case, which was certainly not there, but more importantly there was no mention of Windows 7, which is the operating system on my laptop (or for that matter of Windows Vista). However I followed the instructions for installing under Windows 2000 (just insert the cable into the USB port) and the operating system did indeed recognise the device and install the driver. So Windows 7 does not need the little installation disk supplied with it.
It did take me a while to find the drive on my computer though as it did not seem to appear on Windows Explorer at first, and I'm not sure now of the exact path I took to finally locate it. Also it seemed to change its drive letter at one point. This is probably a quirk of Windows 7.

Cheap and Nasty
Software installed fine, but mechanically this is completely defective. Makes horrible noise and does nothing to read the disc, appalling.

compatability issue
Despite the description saying that the product was Mac compatible it wasn't. Using the disc provided & searching the net still didn't work. Disappointing!
