Product Description

Kaavie External Flash Power Battery Pack for Canon is fully compatible with original Canon CP-E4 battery pack. The External Flash Battery Pack is an external power source for a much higher flash capacity. This high performance power pack is a light, external power source designed for Canon 580EX II, 580EX, 550EX, MR-14EX and MT-24EX flashguns. When this battery pack is connected to the flash, the recycling time will be reduced to approximately 1/3 of the original value, and the number of flashes will be increased by approximately three times. NOTE: You need to put the batteries in your flashgun first, otherwise the battery pack may not work properly. The battery pack just work as an extra power supply, and the batteries in the flashgun must have enough power to fire the flash, otherwise the flash pack also may not work. Please make sure there are batteries in both flashgun and battery pack. Compatible flashgun models: Canon 580EX II, 580EX, 550EX,MR-14EX, MT-24EX. Package content: Flash battery pack x 1pc, Protection case x 1pc, 1/4" Camera connecting screw adapter x 1pc, Instruction manual x 1pc.

This unit costs less than a Canon Speedlite lead for my Quantum power pack! To be honest my expectations were not high, but I needed the extra power and the recycle speed boost. Well was I surprised? You bet I was, and pleasantly so. The pack easily kept pace with my Canon 5d Mk2 on several outings at both weddings and parties. Over enthusiastism could quite easily fry your flashgun! So be careful. The literature advises no more than 20 flash bursts at any one time, allowing the unit to cool before continuing. However switching to a second flashgun overcomes this. As far as I am concerned it has paid for itself already. During a portrait session I used both this unit and another Speedlite + Quantum combo without "dropping" a flash. I will not bore you with a description of the unit. The sales blurb covers that. Would I recommend it to a friend? Absolutely.

This is a superb bit of kit for anyone using Canon flash guns, though not the 430EX II for some reason. It holds 8 AA batteries with another 4 in the flash itself and can keep up with a Canon 50D firing at 6.5 frames per second in short bursts; though I would not try this too often as the flash circuits are not built for it, but on the odd occassion it is fine. The pack can be mounted to the tripod bush of the camera, on a belt, or wrapped a round a lightstand via the velcro strap. I've used this heavily since November and it is still on the first lot of batteries, including doing a birthday party where I took over 150 shots on the night with flash. If you want quick recycle times and don't want to be replacing batteries too often then this is the product for you, and it's far cheaper than the Canon original.

Bought two of these as the Canon one was WAY too expensive for what is essentially a plastic battery box. These are well made and very very similar to the Canon one. Recycle times for my Canon 580EX II flashguns are now just over 1 second for a full power flash and well under a second for less than that. I use Energiser Lithiums and these are lasting for ages - two weddings so far without battery changes - fabulous! Get one when they are back in stock!

I use two speedlights for my wedding and portrait photography, the Canon 580EX and Canon 580EX II and get fed up with changing the batteries all the time. I also shoot off camera flash using Pocket Wizards and needed something to prolong the battery life but Canon's own battery pack was ridiculously expensive for what it is.

I came across these from UK Highland whilst searching Amazon for an alternative and liked what I read in the reviews so I ordered two knowing I would need one for each speedlight. UK highland delivered quickly and well within the specified time frame so I tested them immediately before the next wedding I had coming up.

Once the batteries are in place, the packs feel solid and sturdy and they are simple to operate. They come with a well made material cover with a design that makes them easy to attach to frames, belts etc. I also used them by simply putting them in my pocket (not sure what this does for my fertility but I have two kids and that is just fine thanks : )

So, how did they fair in the "field"? I used them at the next wedding and they operated pretty much flawlessly for the entire wedding. I usually get through quite a few packs of 4 rechargables as I like to play with flash during many parts of the day. With these external packs, I didn't need to change batteries once and in fact they were still being used to shoot my kids with long after that wedding.

I now have two speedlights with two battery packs attached on two stands using a set of Pocket Wizards and it is bliss...like having a portable studio that I can take anywhere with plenty of battery power to boot!

Highly recommended! [...]

I have to say this is a fantastic alternative to the Canon boost pack and a lot cheaper. As a press photographer it has proved to be a must and lasts for a couple of weeks bearing mind I use it daily.....Brilliant worth every penny. Shame the one for the Canon 430 EX is nearly three times the price when it is basically the same thing !!!!!?????

I bought this for shooting weddings after seeing a friend using one. The build isn't quite the same as Canon's own BUT for less than half the price price it performs just as well. I used the highest power rechargeable batteries in the pack and never missed a single picture throughout the day...very pleased with this.

Was a little sceptical when I first purchased this product as I've bought cheaper battery packs before that didn't last. However, I was totally wrong. This is an amazing bit of kit that is simple in design yet packs a big punch. The recycle time when using the external battery pack on my 580exII is super fast. An amazing product at an amazing price

Hi very nice design, compact and can use 4 or 8 batteries , does not seem to produce a great effect untill you start firing off mutiplle bursts at high power, e.g., ten shots using a 580EXII one after other, then the pack keeps up for a while, stops then get going again, in comparison out of 10 shots, the flash only, will give 4 flashs (at full power then cannot fire again). So effective product. Not tested at lower flash settings but should do a much better job than the flash by itself. Recomended.
