This was the Transfer 6th 1979 album and what an album. It is so upbeat and with such a lovely feel to it, it never fails to cheer me up whenever I listen to it.
It marked the debut of new singer Cheryl Bentyne after Laurel Masse left but the transition is seamless. The album starts with the Joe Zawinul inspired Birdland which was a minor hit for them the vocals, tone and pace of this piece still makes me smile after 20 years of listening following that they launch into Wacky Dust and then Nothin'you can do about it and Twilight zone ;theres just no respite the vocal style pace and production is faultless. They finally slow you down with Shaker song and Foreign affair, by this stage you will be breathless!
Make no mistake this a classy album and very refreshing after their earlier more nostalgic offerings. Its classy and fun, what more would you want from a Jazz vocal album.
If you have not heard the Manhatten Transfer before its not a bad place to start , better than a best off compilation which never seem to hold up for album artist.
