First off the title is not warranted. These are all standard length versions, and in fact Thick As A brick at just under 9 minutes is the shortest version I have heard so far, far short of the original 45 minutes. Moreover 7 out of the 10 tracks are already available on the live CD Living With The Past released in 2002. Surley a live album should be a record of a group at a specific time, but these versions stretch over five years. If you want to know what Jethro Tull were doing at the turn of the century you will be much better served by buying the afoermentioned Living With The Past, with 21 tracks, 11 more than this one.

Excellent snippetts 21 July 2008

Here we are with some might say (yet)another live album, but hold on this is a sprinkling of gigs and years, we get France 1999, Holland 1999, England ( Hammy apollo) 2001, Stately Home 2002 and Washington DC 2004.I got a copy because A, I saw the band at the Brighton Dome on their 40th anniversary world tour and very impressed I was and B, Extended Versions sounded interesting as I scanned the 10 songs. the one thing that hit me very quickly was here is a very tight well oiled machine, but its not just Ian Anderson that holds it all together. The main ingredient is Martin Barre. he is a fantastic guitarist who at 60 something can control and manipulate any style he wishes to coax out of his six string friend ( bursts of lead breaks ) executed perfectly. Extended Versions is a CD series by sony featuring many top bands, If they are half as good as this then could be a wise investment! This my 2nd Tull live CD ( the first is Bursting Out ) is probably all I need to own..Excellent stuff.

Anyone who has bought Sony/BMG's "Extended Versions" series of live classic rock recordings knows that most of these releases have been culled from previous CD releases. This one is no exception; eight of the CD's ten tracks are taken from 2002's "Living With The Past," which featured the line-up of Ian Anderson, Martin Barre, Andrew Giddings, Jonathan Noyce, and Doane Perry. Two songs, "Cross-Eyed Mary" and "Thick as a Brick," appeared on the companion "Living in the Past" DVD, but not the CD and, for Tull fans, would be the primary reason for picking up this CD. Fans that are new to Jethro Tull or casual fans, looking to pick up live versions of some of the band's greatest hits, will likely enjoy this collection. The playing is first-rate and the recording is very good.

The "Extended Versions" series seems to have a cut-off number of 10 songs for each of its releases, meaning that there's less than an hour of music on this CD, and loses a star as a result.

Well if I had known I was just buying the same tracks from previous CD's, I'd have saved my money. The music is good but I feel ripped off as I have Living with the past and A little light music already. Thanks Sony!
