Once again, 3 CDs jam-packed with dozens of 12” mixes you already have on other compilations. And once again, a couple of out-of-place 90s remixes of some of the songs. You may, however, find a couple of odd dub mixes you’ve been looking for on CD. I bought this collection specifically because of the “dance mix” of Sledgehammer, but it proves not to be the mix running 7:15 on the U.S. 12” single. Here’s the track list with a few notes about some of the mixes:

CD1

1. Relax (NY 12” mix)…Frankie Goes to Hollywood (7:25)
2. Situation (extended)…Yazoo (5:45) (US LP version)
3. Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go…Soft Cell (9:06)
4. Girls on Film (night version)…Duran Duran (5:31) (this is the slightly shorter night version without the camera sound effects at the beginning)
5. Everything She Wants (12”)…Wham! (6:29) (the US 12” version with the “my situation never changes” bridge)
6. Don’t You Want Me (Oliver Lieb Mix)…Human League (6:43) (90s remix)
7. Atomic (Diddy’s 12” mix)…Blondie (6:51) (90s remix)
8. Sledgehammer (dance mix)...Peter Gabriel (5:09) (this is neither of the mixes from my U.S. 12” single. And it’s more of a vocal dub…doesn’t feature all the lyrics)
9. It’s My Life (U.S. Mix)…Talk Talk (6:13)
10. (Feels Like) Heaven (extended remix)…Fiction Factory (5:53)
11. Absolute (Gary Langan mix)…Scritti Politti (6:12)
12. Shout (US Dub)…Tears for Fears (6:46)

CD2

1. Lullaby (extended)…The Cure (7:43)
2. Spellbound (12”)…Siouxsie & The Banshees (4:39)
3. Pretty in Pink (Berlin Mix)…Psychedelic Furs (6:49)
4. Never Stop (Discotheque mix)…Echo & the Bunnymen (4:46)
5. Quiet Life (12”)…Japan (4:50)
6. Fade to Grey (extended)…Visage (5:36)
7.

This may be good for the most casual of buyers, but for those of us collectors who buy 80s compilations this is poor. It isn't even really honest about being "Extended 80s" anyway. There are 90's mixes on here and 7" mixes and dub mixes.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood "Welcome To The Pleasuredome" is a 7" version. Tears For Fears "Shout" is a B-Side Dub Mix, not the vocal version. Scritti Politti "Absolute" is the 12" B-Side version. I also see Blondie "Atomic" is the Diddy Mix from 1994. The Human League "Don't You Want Me" is a remix from 1995. Apparently the version of Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" isn't either of the two 12" mixes released at the time and fades out during a verse. Bananarama "Really Saying Something" is not the full 5:38 12" version, it has been edited to 4:01.

I am tired of these lazy compilations of the same old same old. How boring is it to keep repeating these same tracks over and over again. I already have this same mix of Frankie Goes To Hollywood "Relax" on 11 different CDs. Yazoo "Situation" on 11 other CDs. Dead Or Alive "You Spin Me Round" on 11 other CDs. I'm so bored of seeing Soft Cell "Tainted Love" and Visage "Fade To Grey".

Why are the compilers of these CDs never more adventurous? Why not include 12" mixes that have never been on CD before like Jimmy The Hoover "Tantalise (Wo Wo Ee Yeh Yeh)", Survivor "Eye Of The Tiger", Paul Hardcastle "19 (The Final Story)", Mari Wilson "Just What I Always Wanted", or the original 12" version of Farley Jackmaster Funk "Love Can't Turn Around"...... That's just a few ideas.

We shouldn't be always confronted with variations on the same hard core of tracks. This trend has been happening more and more.

Well I saw this and being an eighties child I thought it would be a good collection of 12" inches however most tracks we not bad I was quite disappointed with a few including "Madness - Mad House". What an abortion of a remix was that ??? Sounded like it was remixed by Eyeball Paul with Alzheimers after he had dropped his ice cream all over the decks and was trying to scrape it off at the same time.....what a mess!!!!

Just more of the same. Nearly all of these extended versions are available on other compilations, in their original state and with much better sound quality. And as an 80's music lover, it is deplorable to me that a few of the songs here are 90's mixes. Keep it original or leave it out.

Whilst I love a lot of the songs on this CD I have to say I was very disappointed by the sound quality which wasn't crisp but had a muffled almost fuzzy sound to it. Also it emphasised that some songs really don't benefit from going on for longer - so that eventually you're just wishing it was over. Wouldn't recommend as a purchase.

if like me you have got most of the boxsets on the market you will see this is a real waste of money as they are just putting the same
tracks on each one ,there are some new tracks but they are few then you see this is a shame as they have alison moyet as the extended version of all cryed out ,when its the albums version ,i wish one of the companys would give us fans real extended versions and not all the ones that have been on so many other boxsets ,if i was you i would see if you can download the mixes you want and save your cash for a real extended version boxset of new released mixes .
