About the Author

The author of seven previous bestselling novels, Alex Kava is now an established star of the thriller genre. Kava's crisp prose and insightful attention to detail has earned frequent comparisons with the likes of Patricia Cornwell and Karin Slaughter. A former PR director, Alex dedicated herself to writing full-time in 1996.

This is the 6th in Alex Kava's Maggie O'Dell series. Well that's what it's labelled as, even though Maggie O'Dell is only featured in about a quarter of the whole book if that. This book is a total let down, the plot is flimsy, boring and totally all over the place. There is no character development at all and it's a completely un necessary book in the series. I found the abundance of new characters quite hard to keep track of and due to the lack of reality with the characters I found them hard to care for. On the front cover there is a quote that says 'Reminiscent of Patricia Cornwell in her prime.' and let me tell you this is most definately not the case. Kava could only dream of being as good as Cornwell and I found that comment to be a huge overstatement.

When Alex Kava first hit the scene with her best book to date in the series 'A Perfect Evil' she gained alot of fans, and she earnt them. But over the years her efforts have decreased and I've grown more and more tired with her dire efforts.

I sincerly hope the next book is an improvement for I fear if it is not then I shall be hard pushed to want to continue with this ever-downward spiralling series.

This book was cheap in a supermarket. I had never heard of Alex Kava but thought I would give it a go. The comparison to Patricia Cornwell is irrelevant. Books should be read on their own merit and this was so good that it has driven me on to Amazon to see what else Alex Kava has written. I intend to buy all the Maggie series before trying her other diversions. It was well written with a good pace and had me hooked on the first late night dive into this new (for me) author. Sweet. Another author on my 'every book by' list.

I love Alex Kava's books. Well written, fast and interesting action. From the first 'A Perfect Evil' through all the laster ones I have never been disappointed. Always a pleasure to read until this one 'Exposed'.
It's a shame that the author chosen a topic she had NO idea about at all. Even for someone with basic understanding of virology and possible viral epidemics it's a dreadful read. Mistakes every second page made me either laugh with despair or want to bang my head against the wall - hard to read and enjoy. Loads of factual errors that could have been correct with 5sec long search on the Internet.
Shame it wasnt another book like previous ones with good psychology and engaging action. Unfortunately with a completely confused and incorrect science its dreadful.

With an author like Kava this book had the potential to be an outstanding example of this genre. Instead I was left very disappointed with a slow, almost suspense less plot and a focus on the minutiae of the characters' lives. There were times when I found myself eagerly awaiting the next chapter, but these were few and far between.

For those who do not follow the series, the plethora of characters and unexplained backstory makes it difficult to develop a real connection to the characters.

The saving grace of the novel was the detail Kava provided, perfect for medical-thriller fans.

Overall one for fans of the series only. The plot focuses too much on character development rather than the exciting story line, leaving a new reader disappointed.

Had to buy this as it wasn't available anywhere electronically.
Great book but I hated not being able to alter the text size. I had to wear my reading glasses and I never have to do that with Kindle.
For all those who talk about it not being the same when it's not a 'proper paper' book it certainly isn't. With Kindle you never lose the page, you can change the font and text size and you don't have to cram your home with bookshelves if, like me, you like to keep your books.
Of course, you could also go away for a day and settle with your beloved Kindle and discover you hadn't charged the battery...
C'est la vie!

Since reading my first Alex kava book I am hooked. All the stories are so different, yet they still have a connection to the previous one. Can never wait till new one comes out.

I read it, my husband read it, my 21 year old read it, my 81 year old mum read it and now my 15 year old son is reading it who normally only reads Harry Potter! We all really enjoyed it. I love Alex Kava! A great bedtime or holiday book and well worth buying. Can't wait for her next one.
