More About the Author

Christopher Fielden has spent more than fifty years in the wine trade and, either selling, or seeking, wines has visited more than one hundred countries. Amongst his more exciting moments are being expelled from gabon, arriving in French Guiana by dug-out canoe and having his appendix removed in Sudan.
Amongst the wines that he has introduced on the British market are Jacob's Creek and D'Arenberg from Australia,, Marques de Caceres and Julian Chivite, from Spain, Graham Beck from South Africa and Felton Road from New Zealand.
He has written fifteen books and these have appeared inn a broad variety of languages.
He now lives in rural Wiltshire and spends his time walking the dog and playing the occasional game of social cricket as a specialist number eleven batsman.

I obtained this book (as most do) in order to complete the Higher certificate course of the Wines and Spirits Education Trust (WSET)... for this purpose it is, literally, invaluable. However, if you're looking to find out more about wine production, regions, grapes, etc. and you have a basic understanding (i.e. you drink wine on a regular basis) then I would also recommend this book. It may seem like a lot of money when compared to other, more glossy wine encyclopedias written by wine celebs, but it is packed full of the basic facts, maps, simple diagrams etc. OK so the style of writing won't send you straight out to the nearest 'offy', and the content sometimes reads as though 'somebody needs to lighten up a little', but it's all there... A trusty fact-file for your bookshelf (file under "Dry but informative").

To be honest, I am disappointed with the condition it's in.. I have always been pleased before, so maybe I have been spoiled.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting facts! 17 Oct 2010
Format:Paperback
I found this book very interesting and puts the facts simply. There are occasions where a key definition is left to a later chapter which is very unhelpful, but the glossary in the back can remedy that. It's very thorough.

4.0 out of 5 stars Essential for passing the WSET exam 27 Sep 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Not the most exciting book to read as it is very factual in nature but as a text book to pass the WSET exam it is invaluable.
