The underrated bassist Curtis Counce(1926-1963) worked mainly in Los Angeles and formed his own quintet in 1956. This was his last album originally recorded for the obscure DOOTONE label in April, 1958 with a superb quintet including tenor saxophonist Harold Land, Swedish born trumpeter Rolf Ericson, pianist Elmo Hope and drummer Frank Butler.
The 8 enjoyable tracks(plus 3 bonus tracks) include originals by Hope and impressive versions of the standards 'Move', 'Angel Eyes' & 'Someone To Watch Over Me'.
'Exploring The Future' contains over 53 minutes of swinging West Coast hard bop which is well worth searching for.
