Product Description

Exploring Internal Communication, from PR Academy, takes a fresh look at this exciting and fast growing area of business practice - including the latest thinking on social media for internal communications. Exploring Internal Communication examines an integrated approach to social media. It advocates using a combination of different forms of social media, such as written, visual and experiential (for example Second Life), to more effectively engage with employees. The book acknowledges the importance of face to face communication but recognises that in dispersed or global organisations this isn't always achievable or affordable. Other topics covered include organisational culture; management theory; communication theory; employee engagement; rethinking internal communication; research and analysis; creativity and planning; the role of the internal communicator; and tone of voice. The book has been edited and co-authored by Kevin Ruck of PR Academy - the largest Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) qualifications centre. Kevin explains: "For today's internal communications practitioners to be effective it is essential that they have an understanding of the latest theory that underpins their work. They also need to have knowledge of the key influencers impacting these, like social media. Only then can they deliver strategies that make a real difference and gain the influence they seek within their organisations." Kevin continues: "Nobody else in the organisation is as well placed as the internal communicator to drive the engagement agenda. But to do that, practitioners have to employ the latest thinking and tools as well as talk the language of the business. If they don't, they risk losing this strategic position."

I recommend Exploring Internal Communications as a useful book for anyone who works in an organisation and wishes to understand the theory behind internal communications and employee engagement. It is a comprehensive publication, covering many key aspects and drawing on theoretical models from well known experts in this field. I also found it easy to follow and readable with clear illustrations, mini case studies and practical tips. Recommended!
