The book does exactly what it states, it is a book that allows any person with sufficient skill to be be able to service and change various worn out parts of the car with good and clear instruction, pictures and advice. The book covers most aspects from simple oil changes to major overhauls. The book also sets out the specialised tools and equipment required fo the more complicated major servicing leaving one in no doubt that to aquire the specialised equipment and tools will sometimes cost more than the parts and would be best left to experts. However if the novice engineer wishes to understand the workings of and to commence maintaining the car, this book sets out all that is required to proceed. As the skills of the novice expand, the book is well able to support the increase in understanding and skill to professional level.

Excellent Product 2 Dec. 2010
By John V. - Published on
Format: Paperback
As always, Chilton's produces a magnificent product. I've used Chilton's guides in the past because of their accuracy, depth, and reliability, with this one providing more of the same. If you've never purchased a Chilton's before, take comfort that the higher price tag is well worth it. These manuals usually cost more than a Hayne's, however they provide much more information. Inside you will find everything from the routine oil change or transmission flush, to how to replace a bent crankshaft. The book is clearly designed for both the beginner do-it-yourselfer as well as a seasoned auto mechanic, with clear and precise instructions on how to accomplish any task. While sizes of certain sockets and wrenches may or may not be listed, the knowledge contained within this book outweighs the competition by far. It even includes a convenient list of areas to inspect/maintain, including the mileage/date in which it should be done. Highly recommended for any vehicle owner who wishes to keep their vehicle on the road for years to come.

Chilton's Manual 29 Dec. 2010
By Jim M - Published on
Format: Paperback
Bought this manual to help fix an electrical problem with my keyless entry/memory seats/auto lights. The manual covers mechanical repairs in the most detail. Has a black box approach to the wiring, but does not cover the Limited version which has the memory functions. Does not have the locations of the different control modules identified and calls some of the modules different names than the Ford manuals.

I changed the spark plugs and air filter this past weekend , and both books saved me a lot of time and aggravation.Sometimes you'll find one book contains info the other one leaves out.Get both. We'll worth the money! I saved between $150-$200 in labor this weekend alone!

Chiltons Auto Repair Manual-Ford Explorer 22 Oct. 2007
By William J. Tufts - Published on
Format: Paperback
I have used Chilton manuals for many years and have found them to have excellent coverage of their subject. This one is no exception. I purchased this manual along with Haynes manual as they compliment each other. I would be hard pressed to make a choice between the two.

NIce manual to own 14 Aug. 2012
By L. Buch - Published on

This is a very good repair manual for a Ford Explorer owner. I assume it works on several years and models but I use it for our 2003 Exploder. Well worth the money. It does require a basic knowledge of tools and mechanics but it does contain much good information.
