Format: Paperback
The book is informative, but restricted to the amount of content delivered in each section. At the sametime, it seems to be aimed mainly at US travellers wanting to explorer Barbados. Overal its worth buying if you don't know anything about the Island, but don't expect a book that is packed full of the latest hot tips. Style & layout of the book could be better!

Format: Paperback
Explore Barbados is a guide and travel overview for the island of Barbados. This book includes a wide range of information, everything from background knowledge on the island's natural and cultural environment through places to stay while on the island to interesting things to do at every stop along the way.

There are six sections in Explore Barbados: Introduction; Practicalities; Bridgetown and St. Michael's Parish; The Northern Parishes and the Scotland District; The Southern Parishes; and Accommodation Finder. The introduction section contains an overview about Barbados and the general Caribbean area. This detailed information includes land, climate, flora, fauna, history, government, economy, culture, and religion of this area.

The next chapter, Practicalities, contains contacts and general information on transportation, food, accommodations, and potential activities while enjoying Barbados. Each entry contains a short paragraph about each of these general topics including contacts and potential costs.

The rest of the sections in Explore Barbados focus on particular parts of the Island. The first portion of each section describes a little about the particular island region including the history. After this overview, specific examples of transportation, accommodation, restaurants, shopping, tourist information, services, and sights are depicted in detail. Each entry contains a short paragraph about the establishment including contacts and potential costs. Also provided in each of these sections is ample information, complete with contacts, on what activities are available in each island region. Several black and white and colour maps and photographs accompany each section.

We had a great time using this guide... 24 July 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
We really enjoyed ourselves in Barbados usiing this guide. Barbados is very compact, and the only town is the capitol city of Bridgetown which is OK but not the best place to hang out in. Thanks to this book we were able to travel to the east coast and visit the small village of Bathsheba, discover the natural areas to the north, and really appreciate what we were seeing. Also, the guide lists small bed and breakfasts and local restaurants. The websites listed were useful as well as the information we found on the publisher's website. We really recommend that you check out some of the natural areas such as Barclay's Park and Welchmans Gully. You should make your reservations before you go, because everywhere can be reached in a short period of time. Although all of the bus routes are listed in detail, we found it easier to rent a car.

Terrific all-around guide 1 Nov. 2000
By Joyce Huber - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Harry Pariser's Explore Barbados is the best coverage of the island that I've seen. Besides hotels and inns, restaurants and activities, it details all sorts of fun stuff--like highways are just country roads, notes about the Bajans quirks and Creole rites, sidenotes on Vanilla orchids, odd uses of Aloe, like mothers using it to stop thumbsucking and a wonderful glossary of local lingo. Tidbits are scattered throughout -- i.e. The walking stick around a house may forecast a death in the family. The overall layout and design is nice with easy to read maps, beautiful photos and nice legible type. It's a joy to read and use.

Go East! 13 Jun. 2001
By EMS - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This guidebook is excellent! We finally got away from the all inclusives and went to the East Coast of the island. We stayed at a fabulous B&B in Bathsheba that was mentioned in this book. The sound of the ocean lulled us to sleep at the Sea-U guest house. We went over to the Andromeda Gardens which were close and saw beautiful tropical flora. This book had great hiking information in it as well. I am going to remember this trip for a long time and want to thank the author for sending us to such wonderful, not to miss places!
