This is the most detailed guide to all areas of Australia that I have been able to find. It's also a beautiful book in its own right - gorgeous colour photos. All the towns are listed, state by state, with the attractions in town and the surrounding area described, with directions where appropriate. It also has overviews of the main sights along certain routes, such as the Great Ocean Road, and these tie in well with the maps and town details, plus sections on special interests for each state, such as the best wildlife sites.
The coffee table format does make this a weighty book - if that's a concern, or you need listings of the cheap local hostels, buy Lonely Planet. Otherwise, buy this book.

Beautifully illustrated with first class photographs and maps, covering town, city and country. Detailed, covering topics from advanced planning, to how to obtain water, and from towing to tools.
Not a publication I would carry with me on the road, but a book to drool over both in the planning and post mortum stage of an Aussie saga.
Having it in your lounge will probably deter your friends, unless they share your passion for Australia.
