Book Description

30 April 2012 RE: Lit

Too few people attending church today, even in evangelical churches, are exposed to the gospel 'explicitly'. Sure, many will hear about Jesus, and about being good and not being bad, but the gospel message simply isn't there at least not with precision and fullness.

Moved by the common neglect of the explicit gospel within Christianity, Matt Chandler begins with the specifics of the gospel outlining what it is and what it is not. He then switches gear to focus on the fullness of the gospel and its massive implications at both personal and cosmic levels.

Recognizing our tendency to fixate on either the micro or macro aspects of the gospel, Chandler also warns us of the dangers on either side of becoming overly individualistic or syncretistic. Here is a call to true Christianity, to know the gospel explicitly, and to unite the church on the amazing grounds of the good news of Jesus!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Explicit Gospel 2 July 2013
By Jim C
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A great book. Easy to read but challenging in it's message to live and speak out the gospel. The chapters on the cosmic effects of the gospel were exciting. The work of Christ is not just for me as an individual but affect and bring about the restoration of the whole universe.

5.0 out of 5 stars fresh, clear and comprehensive good news.... 12 July 2012
The last few years have seen increasing volume of writing by the `young, restless, Reformed' inevitably this new title asks, what does this book add to the market? Matt Chandler here encourages readers to make the gospel explicit rather than revert to the "moralistic, therapeutic deism" that most professing believers falsely assume is authentic Christianity. Central to this book is the aching truth, that we could talk `about' and yet miss the `core' of the gospel and so comes Chandlers, arrow-focus challenge to biblical root it all in Gods revelation in Jesus.

Chandler is a really great Bible teacher and also a funny & authentic man in Christ. Chandler writes like he preaches & the overall tone of this is great. Here there is a rigour and yet connecting love to the good news and the resulting expression of this explicit gospel. We are beckoned on ground and air approach, for we are to be both message-minded and mission-minded. Wonderfully beyond the standard clichés of evangelical culture. This is puritan in theology, missional in emphasis & fuel for the soul!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 11 July 2013
A book i'd highly recommend you to read this year. Matt Chandler is a solid Bible teacher and does not compromise what scripture says. He has a really down to earth, humble approach but makes it clear what he's saying through thorough Biblical research. Get a note pad and take notes this book is worth the read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing 11 Nov 2013
By PaulW

This is a book that pulls few punches and is refreshingly written. I enjoyed it very much. My one reservation was that, almost at the end, in what I felt was an unnecessary inclusion, he discusses women in ministry. His approach is to lump all of those who support women leading and preaching into the category of those who undermine the authority of Scripture. That is too sweeping and inaccurate. That is a pity. Because the rest of the book is brilliant.
