I bought this album about 6 years ago and am still not tired of it, every single track is absolutely brilliant and it is without a doubt their best album. The first half of the album is more upbeat than the second half with tracks such as Slight Return and Bluetonic stealing the show. The slower tracks on the second half are more likely to grow on you over some time; Putting out Fires standa out particularly as just a beautiful piece of music. This album was a hard act to follow, and it is a shame that the other albums are not as good because this is entirely brilliant from start to finish.

This album, released in early 1996, is one of those magnificent pieces of work that hardly ages and seems as fresh now, as the day it was released. The album is full of songs that, although would be unlikely to hold their own in the singles chart, as a whole fit together in a charming melodic style. The two stand-out tracks are undoubtedly "Bluetonic" and "Slight Return". Both ooze style and quality and point towards great things. A first listen may result in either instant joy, or a slight let down feeling, but after a few listens, it is hard not to fall in love with the clever lyrics and the wonderfully melodic tunes. The album is littered with pure genius and each song cannot help but raise a smile on your face and the hidden delights of "The Fountainhead" and "Vampire", just lie there waiting ot ensnare you. A breathtaking album, surely one of the best of the britpop era (although they would probably be unhappy at being grouped into that category), unmissable, just simply brilliant.

I bought this Album after I watched The Bluetones on Jools Holland in 1996 and I was blown away by the guitarist. I was learning to play at the time and I thought, one day I want to be able to play like that. Five years later I can and everything I write revolves around that jangle vein. Every song on this album is class, the same yet very different. I love the words, guitars, drums and bass. Theres no big orchestra behind them, its just brillantly played guitar pop. There are the singles, Bluetonic, cut some rug, slight return, they are absolute brilliance, but then there is tracks like a Parting Gesture, which have so much charm and character to them. Ok, nuff said, buy it and love it all your life. PS It's in the same mould as the Stone Roses debut, for those who haven't heard the Bluetones before.
