a generation explained,
This review is from: Expecting to Fly: In Search of the Spirit (Paperback)
Many of us who grew up in the fifties and sixties were looking for something intangible, some new way of making sense of the explosion of possibilities then available. Patrick Sheridan tells of his inner and outer journey from colonial Hong Kong, seen through the eyes of an adventurous, mischievous child, then as he grows up via the magical mystery tour of often dangerous experiments in exploring consciousness with psychedelic and other drugs as a squatter in seventies London, until he finally finds what he is seeking through a remarkable and fortuitous meeting. His salvation comes in the form of a motherly Indian lady, a diplomat's wife with impeccable credentials and the ability to not only save him from his by then life threatening addictions, but to give him, and his sister and friends the inner spiritual awakening that has been the goal of men and women throughout the world for aeons. His account is searingly self effacing and honest, often funny, exciting, eminently readable and reveals what all of us can aspire to in our outwardly humdrum lives. The profound and sublime experiences he now regularly has, which are vividly expounded towards the end of the book, match any descriptions of the great mystics, eastern or western. It also explains why so many eminently sensible people of that generation got themselves into such problems, and what they were really looking for. The author is now happily married and responsibly working in the public sector, but that is only the half of it.....

Absolutely amazing book! I could not put it down and didn't want it to end! Read this book and discover the perils of drug abuse and the amazing path to truth of Sahaja Yoga. Beautifully written and very touching it describes one persons path of hell through drug abuse and then the ultimate path to Heaven through Sahaja Yoga. Highly recommended.

"Expecting to Fly": In Search of the Spirit. by Patrick Sheridan,

This review is from: Expecting to Fly: In Search of the Spirit (Paperback)
This is a book that gives a true insight into spiritual enlightenment! It is one individuals personal experience; as there can be no other! The first part of the book covers the trials and tribulations of life; and a view of the drug scene in the late 1960s and 70s! But this is not a book about drugs; it is in every way a book about spiritual enlightenment once you get past the biographical nature of the first several chapters! The author even tells you that you can skip past the first few chapters without missing much! My advice would be don't; as it is a valuable insight into just one individuals path to reality! It is important that you read and interpret the second part of the book for yourself; as it is mind boggling life changing stuff! So as not to influence the reader; I would say that it is one persons relationship with himself; but also with his spiritual guru! In the early 1970s; Patrick the author; meets this unique personality; an India lady yoga teacher called Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi! Teacher in many way can not fully explain this lady; so I will leave it to you to add your own interpretation and explanation! Patrick's own spiritual path with "Sahaja Yoga"; for that is the Yoga that Shri Mataji teaches; has lasted nearly 40 years! From this point forward it is up to you to make up your own mind; if mind is the right word to use for what you are about to experience!
