I didn't think there was much more I could learn about pregnancy and birth, expecting our fourth baby and being an NCT antenatal teacher, yet this book is a real gem, I couldn't put it down! I got it on a recommendation with the aim of putting in my class book box, then lent it to my pregnant sister (who initially frowned "not many pictures") but when I asked her for it back said she'd loved it once she started to read it, had given it away to her sister-in-law and bought a copy for herself, and now I needed to get another one for me! And it is enlightening to read, so easy to understand, fully researched and up-to-date with bits of humour too, and boy have I learned some more things about pregnancy and birth...a definite MUST buy.

Great Book. My NCT teacher had this in her class library along with lots of others but this was the best. There was a waiting list to borrow it. It's very detailed and backs up what it says with facts and information. So much information just tells you what to do; this books explains why and gives you all your options. It also dispels a few myths - I really believed that stuff about the baby's heartbeat telling you whether it is a boy or girl, but now I know it has no basis.

As an Antenatal Teacher I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Unlike most such texts, all the information is based on the most up-to-date research available, giving parents-to-be a sound basis for the many decisions that they need to make during pregnancy,labour and the first few weeks after the birth.
I also like the clearly structured format that explains the physical changes, the concerns that parents may have and the issues that they need to be thinking about, week by week and month by month. This makes it very easy to dip into for reference.

The pregnancy bible
A really informative book, taking you week by week through your pregnancy. Really up to date info, without being patronising. If you only buy one book, buy this one.
