About the Author

Jeanette and Rachel began working together in ostrich farming (Rachel is the only woman in the UK with a licence to slaughter ostriches!) before starting the Alternative Meats company early in this decade. They now run one of the biggest and most successful exotic meat suppliers in the country and are regulars at county fairs, food exhibitions and on television and radio.

I have read this book from cover to cover and tried out many recipes. It's unique, beautifully written and well presented. However, the zebra spine and pink cover (see original picture)has now been reversed so it now has a pink spine and zebra cover. What a shame! Had it maintained it's zebra spine, it would have stood out on any cookery book shelf. Having said that it is a cookbook which any aspiring chef would want to own. In the UK we are all pre-conditioned to chicken, beef, pork and lamb and occasionally deer (venison). Great - but it's time we moved on to all the wonderful, tasty meats that are out there and available. Alternative Meats have access to all of this at surprisingly reasonable prices. You won't know how good kangaroo, camel, ostrich, etc., is unless you try them - you'll be pleasantly surprised.

great to find a cook book which offers straightforward recipes for the unusual and exotic, but which are also interchangeable with the types of meat we are all familiar with, making these recipes so versatile.

It's loads smaller than I expected and proper expensive for what it is. I bought it as a Christmas gift thinking it would be a great big thing.....not that size is important mind you but I was just hoping for something a bit more man-sized.

Have faith in the recipies - I am friends with the authors so one might say biased, but I bought the book for my boyfriend. We did a haunch of venison, and he was dubious about the cooking time! an hour for 2Kg meat seems short, but it was perfect! The book is wonderful with ways of cooking meats neither of most have tried, and all with exceptional results with diners and cheffs alike!
