Product Description

The uprising ends in success for the denizens of Old Haven, but their victory comes hollow and short-lived. A last-ditch effort of the Citizen leader casts the city into darkness, the protective field blocking out the sun, sky, stars, and the hope of a better life.

Chaos and death follows. The Citizens and Old Havenites fight for survival and revenge, and months pass in brutal conflict. Thousands die with no end to the war in sight, and the constant darkness and weary conditions create a rising despair among the ragged combatants. Many lose hope, and other plans are born, desperate attempts to circumvent the deadly sterilization field and escape the doomed city.

However, a terrible, powerful shadow rises within the forgotten ruins of Old Haven. As the futile war rages on above, this dark and sadistic force gathers strength and waits for the proper moment... the moment when all of those in the city fall to its might.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable 13 Dec 2011

Now how to give a review without giving away the story?

For me the sign of a good book is whether I give up precious sleep to read it - sleep was not at all forthcoming last night as I was engrossed in reading.

For anyone who has read Justin's first book Haven the Uprising you really must pay for this one and find out what happens. The book was fast paced, enthralling and very surprising. I found myself shocked when I found I had read the whole book.

I must admit I hadn't expected the ending we were given and felt it was a bit muddy however it was appropriate. My only other question was whether it is really feasible for human behaviour to change so dramatically from one instance to another, this happened a couple of times and particularly the last time (remember I am trying not to give too much away) I was left feeling that that wouldn't happen but it was still a great story.

Some of the pedants around will mention the missing words ( I couldn't five instances) however read the story in context and you will have no difficulty understanding what is going on.

It would be interesting to know if Justin is the sort of author who plans each part of the plot in detail or whether the characters just take him on a journey with them.

So I would recommend this book to all of those who have read Justin's other book as it is well worth a read.
