Product Description

Product Description

Charlie Sparks had it all. A former primetime television personality, his outdated style has seen him relegated to the scrapheap.

When he collapses and dies during a stand-up routine at a local pub, mysterious bystander Kempston Hardwick is compelled to investigate his suspicious death.

As Hardwick begins to unravel the mystery, he quickly comes to realise that Charlie Sparks's death throws up more peculiar questions than answers.

Exit Stage Left has recently been adapted as a radio play, starring Robert Daws (The Royal, Jeeves & Wooster, Outside Edge), Emily Atack (The Inbetweeners) and Ted Robbins (Phoenix Nights, Little Britain).

Exit Stage Left is a novella, the first in the Kempston Hardwick Mysteries series

"Adam Croft is one of the best new writers in Britain." - Stephen Leather

A new crime series for Adam Croft as his detective Kempston Hardwick unravels the mysterious murder. It is a darn good yarn written like an 'up to date' version of Agatha Christie. Hardwick, a self styled private detective who witnesses the crime, keeps one step ahead of the law, firstly in identifying that the death is suspicious and then in solving the crime. Most enjoyable.
My only puzzle is how he makes his money out of being a private detective or is it a personal hobby.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 28 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I don't read many books, I don't get much time to read and it takes me forever to read them when I do! This was the first of Adam's that I downloaded, I loved it! It was brilliantly written and easy to read, I couldn't put it down. I couldn't wait to download and read more of this duo solving mysteries.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad 1 Oct 2013

but I thought it a bit laboured and wasn't keen on the "detective". Couldn't quite believe in him or the relationship with his sidekick

3.0 out of 5 stars Good idea for a story 29 Sep 2013

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Quite a good idea for a story, and the concept of the detective duo is interesting. However, the author seems to be trying too hard to find alternative words at times, and this gets in the way of the reader's involvement.

A good short read - easily read in a night or two.
Seems rather predictable but has a very clever twist.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not very believable but fun to read 29 Aug 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Loved the names of the characters. Not sure how the investigators managed to pull it off and solve the crime. The solution made me laugh, what a way to kill someone!
It is an enjoyable read that's not too taxing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Think I've reads something like this before......
The plot, although gripping (ish) flows well and for a short book paces itself fairly well. Where the book falls short for me is the feeling from start to finish that I'm reading a... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars nice yarn, but
A ripping yarn, but not really that well written. It's all a little implausible. There's little emotional detail, and the characters are all a little superficial

1.0 out of 5 stars A very poor parody
