Format: Paperback
A good collection of philosophical writing from such greats as Dostoyevski, Kierkegaard, and Sartre. Includes, among other things, a lengthy and informative introduction written by Walter Kauffman giving a brief bio of each author. This book also features several never-before translated works of existentialism aside from such classics as "The Wall," "Notes from the Underground," & "Live dangerously." Overall, this is a wonderful book for a novice to this subject.

Format: Paperback
Kauffman, a modern authority on the movement known as Existentialism defines it and draws an accurate sketch in under 400 pages. If you want to know more about existentialism, this is the book for you!

6 of 8 people found the following review helpful By Vassilis Maroulis on 24 Jan. 2013
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This is a book of proven merit, bringing together a judiciously composed and multi-faceted assortment of texts giving voice to the existentialist experience of life or describing and analysing existentialism. The brief, to the point introductions by professor Kaufmann properly put the various contributions in context. Unfortunately, the printing quality is inadmissibly low (cheap, porous paper making for a bloated look, the contours of the characters annoyingly vague) and effectively distracts the reader's attention from the text.
