I received this book for Christmas 2004, and finished it in a day. Although there have been allusions to the storyline in the 'Arrows' series, the details are fleshed out in this book. My favourite is the details of 'Caryo even kicked him (Prince Karathanelan) once'. The best part has to be finding out that the stone-faced Weaponsmaster has a love interest. He is human, after all! Whilst not as philosophical as "Exile's Honor", Alberich still displays the depth of an excellent character. I recommend this book heartily to all Valdemar fans.

Though a late comer to the series, I enjoyed Exiles Honor, Take a Thief and by the Sword so reading the above review I was pretty excited about this deeper look into the life of the weaponmaster, Alberich and continuation of the Valdemar Series.

Unfortunately this does not do justice to the Exiles Honor book or Take a Thief, with no real continuation, it basically drags with a lot of useless information for...350 to 400 pages before something happens...We already know that the Prince is going to betray the Queen...400 pages later the real plot starts to kick off. The famous sword battle between the prince and Alberich is nothing more than an accidental kill, with no flowing descriptions or strategy, or one on one combat it is an incidental death, big deal.

I think its a bit lame to still find the weaponmaster unable to speak properly, when Skif a street born thief learns to adapt and speak properly...Alberich the weaponmaster is a resourceful, talented individual, a former Karse Captain, its a bit lame that he is still speaking like a Karsite so many years later, muddling his sentence structure and verb usage.

While I did enjoy the brief look at some more of the weaponmaster's life, I found it wanting, certainly not a page turner, unless you skip pages and chapters out of boredom...

Exiles Valor 29 July 2011
By Mrs. Stella White VINE™ VOICE
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book is the second part of a set of two books in the Valdemar series beginning with Exiles Honour. - Read it first is is a lovely story.
To set the time scale, In the first book Princess Selenay was a teenage girl in her father's, King Sendar's, court. Now she is Queen.
Our hero Alberich is now the New weapons Master. Seleny is still very inexperianced though not untrained but her council see this as an oppotunity to gain more power for themselves. They have decided they should choose a husband for her.
Alberich is well aware of their plans and recruits some friends to protect her interests.
Although he can not really find any fault with the candidate he worries that that there is something odd going on. He recruits two lady friends to help him. Both to guard the queen an listen for any rumours of something strange going on.
