Product Description

Katherine O’Reilly and Rekkid Cor. Human and Arkari. Archaeologists with a story about an ancient derelict starship that few believe and a captain’s log that tells of an ancient genocidal war that no-one has ever heard of. But if no-one believes their story, then why are the authorities so keen to suppress it?

Captain Michelle Chen of the Commonwealth Navy. Brave, cunning, merciless. Dangerous even. However she may be just the person her superiors have been looking for to start a war.

Steven Harris. Secret agent with a conscience, who defied orders, ignored the chain of command and let his morals get in the way of his career.

Quickchild. An AI of unknown origin and staggering power that does not know who it truly is.

As the colonies of the human Commonwealth stand on the brink of war with the fanatic legions of the alien K’Soth Empire, these five individuals are drawn to the backward, arid planet of Maranos that stands between the two civilisations. As relations between human and alien deteriorate, Maranos is about to give up its ancient, terrifying secrets.

5.0 out of 5 stars great read! 1 May 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
dont normally buy self published ebooks but waas so blown away by the sample i gave it a try. really enjoyed the story, characters and universe it is all set in, reminds me of the BIG space operas that Peter F Hamilton writes. very easy novel to get into with some great ideas that even though we have all seen most of them before are still presented in an exciting fresh way. a real page?screen? turner, have already reccomended it on the SFX forums for books!, i just hope that book 2 is as good and others find this series and give this new author a much needed boost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Read - Great Imagination 19 Dec 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
I've just finished this LONG book - quite a journey. All the main characters, and indeed the idea for the story, are in the book description - an exceedingly short synopsis for an enjoyably long work.
The characters are well fabricated, true that develop and change through the story. These are interwoven into technologies to be dreamed of on an epic scale. There are many very imaginative societies and vistas that all seem to have a foundation of engineering truth about them - nothing that is outside the believable world that the author has created.
The book is billed as a trilogy - what I am not sure of is whether this is the first of three or it contains all three. I hope that the former is the case and we can therefore expect more of this well written fantasy!
For Kindle readers - text to speech works, however there are just enough typos/odd grammar to be noticeable.
Update: Just read that there is a sequel on the way on the sci-fi thread.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real page turner! 10 Mar 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I've just finished this book and what can I say? I was a fantastic page turner that I found difficult to put down. Popular sci-fi these days seems to seems to gravitate to extremes of uber complicated mind stretching tomes or overly simplified pulp reads (both of which I do enjoy according to mood). In Exiles, Dan Worth has hit the middle ground spot on. He has given us a book that has fascinating concepts to explore while maintaining a fluid and enjoyable pace. The characters in the book are both interesting and diverse enough to let me engage with them but (thankfully) did not have the reams of back-story behind them that some authors seem to feel we need. That is not to say that the characters are lacking substance, rather that Dan Worth tells us what we need to know to make the story work and to understand their motivations. I found the whole premise of the plot very gripping, ranging from the archaeological aspects of `lost civilisations' through to the sense of menace that the author built up when describing the ultimate (or more accurately penultimate) antagonists. I've already said that the book was a real page turner and this is both due to the subject matter along with the pace of the book. Like all good writing, the pace ebbed and flowed, yet maintained a momentum that always left me wanting to find out what happened next. Looking forward to the next one!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read
Bought this for a quick read while I was travelling to Norway. A good read that was easy to read with enough content to keep me busy through hours at the airport and on the plane.
