Product Description

2002 BMA Book Competition Reviewer

What a publication! At last I have found a book that has unlocked a subject area that was previously dry, imposing and unattractive.

Product Description

This thoroughly revised, updated Fifth Edition textbook provides excellent coverage of exercise physiology concepts integrated with relevant scientific information. A basic foundation to understand nutrition, energy transfer and exercise training, it unites the topics of physical conditioning, sports nutrition, body composition, weight control and more. Chapters contain bulleted Objectives and Summaries that promote mastery of the material. A 'Focus on Research' section features synopses of published studies, and interviews with nine contemporary scientists inspire students to realize their professional potential. 'Integrative Questions' pose open-ended questions for considerable reflection on complex concepts. Many new additions enhance this must-have text.

This book is aimed at the persons studying sports science or for the exercise physiologist, this book has great illustrations, and covers most topics, such as; nutrition, energy systems and human performance. I have used this book in completion of my BSc and my MSc

However in some areas the book can be quite technical for the layperson, but also gives a bibliography at the end of each section. But, this is the best book for the money, If you are looking for something more indepth then this is NOT the book for you, this book gives good knowlegde in all areas but does not specialise in any aspect, those looking for infomation on health and exercise will also find this book informative as it has a whole chapter dedicated to health related fitness, drugs in sport e.t.c from the sports science aspect and professional bodies such as the ACSM

Coaches and Gym instructors can also help themselves by reading this book as it would give them, an insight into WHY peolpe do the type of training they do, from a solid science base.

I have just finished by 1st year BSc Human biology and found this book very useful.... Great for general physiology themes as well as sports physiology. I even used it for information on a bomb calorimetry report!

Really useful information at the end of each chapter with detailed referencing and CD rom guide with reference lists you can print.... therefore great for searching original sources.

I cannot imagine you would be dissapointed with this purchase. It's an investment!
