United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: With her five children now grown up, Caroline Fairchild decides to resume her former career in the cut-throat world of publishing. Against the wishes of husband Donald, also working in the industry, she takes up the position of Editorial Director for her old company, Oasis Publishing, in London. Little does Caroline realise that Oasis Publishing - part of an American conglomerate overseen by the megalomaniac Edgar Frankland Jr. - is poised to take over Donald's employer, Ginsberg Publishing, and that Frankland takes a rather harsh line on married couples working together within his empire. Caroline and Donald's solution is unorthodox, yet practical: they become an undercover couple, with Caroline using her maiden name and Donald steadfastly refusing the advances of female colleagues. The ploy seems to work - but there is one unpalatable aspect for Donald: he now finds himself taking orders from his wife... ...Executive Stress - Series One ( Executive Stress - Entire Series One )

This is a wonderful comedy with Penelope Keith and Geoffrey Palmer - both superb in good roles in this slice of 1980s office and family life. I think it is a comedy with a somewhat serious heart insofar as it deals with the compromises and issues women face in deciding career versus family - or perhaps career, family and then career again. A lovely perspective on a thorny issue even today.

Great 1980s fashions on show of course, but really the leads make this comedy with their great delivery of some sharp lines! The supporting cast is full of a few familiar faces of the TV era and all in all this is great fun very relaxed and a real reminder that there may be hundreds more channels now, but this still knocks the spots off most current programmes!

Sit back and enjoy this quirky comedy with the irreplaceable Penelope Keith - a really wonderful character actress.

Now, when I've finished this... why can't I buy the subsequent 2 series which star Peter Bowles too? A great shame!

I'm a huge Geoffrey Palmer fan. Therefore when I saw that this DVD was available I had to see it. I wasn't disappointed. Penelope Keith carries the show as a middle aged woman who wishes to re-enter the workforce after raising 5 children and being a very traditional wife. Having had a successful career in the publishing world, she lands a job quickly. Her husband, played by Geoffrey Palmer, is also in publishing and expects to become head of his company when the owner retires. To his dismay the owner retires and sells his company to the one where Geoffrey's wife works. This show is well written and executed. The fun comes from the two characters having to keep their marriage a secret because the company does not permit married couples to work there. The tension between husband and wife adapting to her being less available to cater to his needs is also done in a humorous way. It is a top rate British comedy with excellent writing and acting.

We have watched this series on television in Australia. It is a great show. How could it not be starring Geoffrey Palmer and Penelope Keith. Their characterizations of their parts are so good and very watchable. The supporting cast are also good quality. Shows like this seem to be long gone and we have to rely on DVD releases to enjoy them, or television repeats. Each year we have waited for television repeats of this show, but to now have it on DVD is great. We have only this week received our preordered DVD of this first season from amazon and find nothing wrong with it. I hope that whatever the glitch, that it can be ironed out and that we can look forward to all the other seasons being released by amazon. Regarding the Next of Kin series, we have been able to buy the first season in Australia so the first season at least is obviously out on DVD. I regularly check into amazon for the other seasons of this to be released. Another Penelope Keith pearl.
