You can always rely on Chicago-based vinyl junkie Felix Da Housecat to turn out a mix CD with a bit of a character. Excursions is a million miles from the frightfully dull progressive house brigade. Felix Da Housecat has been a particularly vocal advocate of the 80s electro-pop revival: it was his 2001 album, Kittenz And Thee Glitz, that brought the mercurial talents of French ice queen Miss Kitten--the vocalist of genre-defining synthcore duo Miss Kitten & The Hacker--to the world stage.

Da Housecat's distinctive remix style demonstrates all the hallmarks of the revival sound: synth-heavy minimal house, poised at the midpoint between the robotic funk of Giorgio Moroder and the immediate disco fever of Daft Punk. And while Excursions collars everything from the jackhammer techno of Jeff Mills to the prancing camp of Zoot Woman to the austere Krautpop of Ladytron into one 73-minute mix, it's testament to Felix Da Housecat's skill as a DJ that this compilation never steps beyond its own elegantly defined boundaries. After hearing felix da housecat's previous album from last year - kittenz and thee glitz, which i though was one of the best records from 2001, i was excited by the prospect of a mix lp. I wasnt dissapointed. Although its not as good, "excursions" boasts a strong track listing, with remixes from the man himself and by his previous groups. British electro group ladytron get a few airings, as does techno don jeff mills. It follows the path of his previous lp with this style of 80s electro house which seems to be very popular at the moment. If you are looking for a more together listening experience and dont already own it i would recomend kittenz and thee glitz. if you want more of the same but mixed and more consistently danceable, then this is for you.
Felix da housecat is definitely recomended to anyone currently into discovery by daft punk, but dont know where to go next.

Those of you familiar with the previous work of
Felix Da Housecat will not be disappointed with
this release.

Although not comprising solely of his own work,
the tracks still have Felix' acid house party
style. Unlike most compilations, 'Excursions'
holds 18 solid tracks, none of which are simply
space fillers. In particular I rate the Phunk
Remix of Felix' own 'Silver Screen - Shower
Scene' and Jeff Mills 'Ticket to Thrillville'.

A must have album for the summer.

THis album shows there mixing talent into a style of electro house,techno and maybe touch of trance.The funky sounds he took to a movie,champu and missy queens gonna die one my favorites.Kicking into some deep electro syles of treat me better and substance.Then into some housey trancey tunes like gas,over the hill and check the underground made me do it another favorite very cool.
