Utter rubbish! 17 Sep 2011
By Toaf
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
I bought this for my son's 10th birthday, when he opened it on the day the box had already been opened and it was clear that it had already been returned once. The Kart had already been semi assembled, tools were missing and was badly scratched and the plastic was split in two places. We continued to assemble it so as not to ruin my son's birthday and I took photos of the damage and emailed the company requesting a replacement or refund. They were prompt to reply and phoned me the next day however they wanted me to dismantle it to return it which I tried but was unable to do. They were not prepared to take it back as it was. Then while my son was playing on it the front wheel (plastic) split (my son is not a large 10 year old). So I packaged it up as it was and returned it. Even if it had not been damaged on arrival, this is a very poor quality product; do not waste your money.

My 10 yr old son bought this for himself (not from Amazon but from trade and public 'cost' 'company' - just slightly cheaper) instead of updating his bike. It is quite expensive for what it is but he is really thrilled!

My son and partner assembled the item quite quickly but be warned, extra tools are required as the allen key that comes with the machine only appears to fit one type of hole. The machine also needs regularly tightening, particularly the seat mechanism as this can slide backwards and forwards to give children of different heights chance to ride it. My son is the main person to use the machine but the seat has already started moving - I expect the sliding sidewards action will eventually wear down the mechanism that keeps the seat in one place. He is a much taller than average 10 year old, but has to have the seat on the smallest leg length so have NO idea how they reckon a 5 yr old can ride this! There is plenty of room to grow with this item so my 9 year old might still get a look in when his older brother finally gets bored with it.

It looks stylish, can move quite fast depending upon the surface you are using, but my son has ridden it on both tarmac (not especially smooth) and grass. It tends on tarmac to be quite noisy but this is not a bad thing as it warns other road users a skid merchant is about!

The steering takes a little getting used to as you use levers instead of a steering wheel so going in a straight line either uphill or down can take a lot of concentration and a lot of strength is needed to cycle it up inclines, but if your child has a slightly downhill slope (like we do) to use this on, they can get up quite a bit of speed before performing skids. I have insisted that my son wear a skateboard helmet when on it as he has already come off it three times (taking the skin off his shoulder with it - nice!) but a lesson in how to lean into a skid and remain in the seat has meant he is much better on the machine now. It can topple quite easy if the terrain is uneven (i.e. dropped kerbs, drains, etc.) but I expect on park areas it would be brilliant. Put it this way, all the injuries haven't put him off using it. He isn't know for being a risk-taker but his first go on this machine had him doing a 180 degree turn complete with huge grin!

We've only had it a week and already it looks quite used but with some regular maintenance I am hoping it will last longer than I am expecting.

I even had a go on it myself being the dare-devil Mum I am and even doing small controlled skids (my skin takes longer these days to repair) I could see how exciting it would be to kids. My son is the envy of the street so it won't be long before there are more Green Machines out there!
