5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful, 24 May 2003

The highlights are the Sutherland pieces, showing off the incredible possibilities of the human voice. Rossini would have been dumbfounded by the divas astonishing talent and beautiful voice. The other singers, though obviously not near Sutherland's tremendous talent, are all super anyway. Highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars Who HASN'T heard of this classic?, 6 April 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Opera Excerpts (Sutherland, Berganza, Karajan, Abbado) (Audio CD)
I'm sure most people, opera fans or not, have heard at LEAST the overture to this (think: the Honey Nut Cheerios commercial in the barber shop or the bugs bunny cartoon) or Figaro's famous aria. Or even just the name Figaro. This is a delightfully light, but nonetheless beautiful opera anyone can enjoy. Rosina is the ward of the tyrranical Dr. Bartolo. He wants to marry her, however she loves Lindoro, (who is really Count Almaviva in disguise), and Lindoro is hopelessly in love with her. Figaro uses his brilliance to bring them together, and two hillarious scenes involving everything from drunken soldiers, a proposed duel, a music lesson, deception, and LOTS of laughs ensue before the lovers are finally united. This is a marvelous recording with the famous Joan Sutherland as Rosina. No matter what she does it's sheer brilliance. Not to be missed.
