5.0 out of 5 stars Excel Saga, 22 Feb 2009
Excel Saga is on the lines of Azumanga Daioh and Lucky Star when it comes to pointless storylines.. except it is a lot weirder and in some cases a lot funnier.
Let me give a low down of the main characters.

Ilpalazzo - The leader of ACROSS ( a "secret ideological organization," to conquer the city of Fukuoka as a first step towards world domination ) basically, he thinks the world is corrupt and wants to turn it into a "better" place. He sends Excel and Hyatt out on random missions, none of which seem to actually help the conquering. His patience is very limited when it comes to Excel and in a few episodes you can see him happily dreaming about killing her. Other times he is usually thinking about Hyatt, or doing random day to day things such as guitar playing and lining up dominos.

Excel - The excentric Excel, head over heals in love for Ilpalazzo and tries her best to please him, this never works out however, as Lord Ilpalazzo finds her hyper personality too much too handle.
For some reason Excel likes to torture her little dog Menchi and is often seen chasing her, trying to eat her, or yelling at her for doing something wrong.

Hyatt - Hyatt manages to captivate most males due her to her beauty and vunerablitly. She is Aneamic, and as a result of this she often manages to collapse, act like an air head, walk around attached to a hospital monitor or sometimes even die. This doesn't fear her though, because somehow she never actually manages to 'walk into the light'.
She seems to have put a mark on Ilpalazzo's heart, and seems to mildy return the affection.

Menchi - Excel's little depressed dog. It's actually quite funny to watch the poor thing stare depressingly into mid day and often try to commit suicide. In episode two.. or three.. Excel gets caught by some bad military looking people and Menchi runs away, soon to be found by the guys who captured Excel. They find Menchi cute and befriend her, but it seems no matter the situation, she can't escape the warm, gut wrenching, pain in the arse that is her mother - Excel.

5.0 out of 5 stars an anime so crazy you might as well leave your brain behind, 7 Dec 2008
By kmania (halifax uk) - See all my reviews
excel saga offers a great range of wacky zany and extremely insane comedy that appeals to both people who don't like using their brains with it's wacky physical humour or the more intellectual who may spot it's celbrity pop culture references any genre they'll mess it up no joke is too extreme

my only warning is if you like watching in japanese with english subtitles i'd advise against it as excel speaks far to fast to keep up with the text

an all round great comedy with a genre spanning range that will literally make your brain melt
