When I first read this book I didn't really understand what Excel was about. I had signed up as a rep and things seemed to have changed so much since this book was written.
Also it didn't appear to contain much about how to be a rep. Only that as a rep you can get very successful.
Over time I have realised that being a rep is a breathtakingly simple exercise in personal fulfillment with a little tenacity thrown in for character building.
Because of this simplicity, all that is in the book is in fact all that there is to being a rep. It is simple and it's simple on purpose so anyone who is basically capable of tying their own shoelaces can be a rep.
There are testimonials from doctors, lawyers and businessmen.
There are testimonials from sports coaches, teachers, nurses.
There are testimonials from single mothers, struggling families and broke students.
And all they needed was the will to succeed a litte and a company to do it with. And Excel for my mind is the company to make money with.
The simplicity means that you can over-explain it. Coming from an IT background I am used to mind-blowing complexity masquerading as simple elegance.
Excel is simple and elegant and not pretending to be anything it's not.
There are books that will show you HOW to bring in prospects to a network marketing business. This is not that book. There are books that will strengthen your mindset and make you mentally tough and motivated. This is not that book.
There are also a lot of businesses out there that offer a poor deal for their customers and distributors alike, causing head-aches for all concerned and being tight with their compensation plans. Excel is not that business.
Excel has taken all the best stuff from network marketing, dispensed with the horrors of selling products because it's a service that is paid for as you use it and come up with a business plan so good, everybody's copying it. And this book shows you where it all started.

This book is a must read for anybody considering a career in Excel (or indeed in Network Marketing). While he focuses on the superstars in the Excel business, he does point out a few of the pitfalls in the industry. Having said that, it probably wouldn't be such a good read if he'd focused on the people who DIDN'T make it in that business. He does evangelise the company and writes of it's huge success, and seems to give the reader many reasons to become an Excel rep. Seems biased, although has no connection with the company. An amazing read, but needs updating. Excel has changed quite a bit since the books publication.

James Robinson has done a really good job of really enlightening the man on the street on the Excel/EurExcel business opportunity.This book covers the history of the company without any hype including the early mistakes of the founders, the success stories of the founders and Independent Reps who have built huge Excel organisations are very inspiring, showing success isn't easy but definitely woth it.This book is well authored.
Another book by James Robinson on Network Marketing - The New Proffessionals is also a great book that I reccommend along with 'The Excel Phenomenon' to any new or aspiring Excel rep or anyone just interested in learning more about the lucrative network marketing industry.
