excel works, microsoft pushes lots of junk on your computer 14 April 2011

The software works as it should. It is a bit slow because the code is dirty, but it works and has more functionality than pages for certain tasks. I still prefer Pages for general spreadsheet work, and Excel for pivot tables and larger datasets. Minitab is the best but does not work on a mac without parallels.

The main drawback, as many of you know from dealing with Microsoft, is their inability to sell you what you want without loading your computer up with useless junk. They might as well be named MicroSpam... with a slogan like "spamming the world one software sale at a time" thanks MicroSpam!

It does not just suck 16 Dec 2011
By Hasherdaber - Published on Amazon.com
I've been using office for mac 2011 for a few weeks, and it's a bug infested piece of junk. It crashes. It does strange, buggy, unpredictable things, like suddenly refusing to link to a workbook, or no longer allowing me to copy figures. Things that take time, and require me to invent pointless workarounds.

I like to customize my toolbar to include frequently used commands. Every time Excel crashes or restarts, it loses my settings. And it likes to crash.

It is also an incredibly sluggish program. I can watch and wait as Excel completes basic calculations. (I've got a core 2 duo laptop with 4 GB of RAM--it doesn't seem as though addition should be challenging.) Several of my colleagues have given up on it because it's so slow. Instead, they prefer to use Excel 2001 (!), which wasn't even written for the Intel processors, and runs via an emulator.

This is an appalling piece of junk that should not have been released until it was cleaned up. If there were a viable alternative, we would switch to it. Open Office and Apple's Numbers lack some of the more advanced features we need, but if you have more basic needs, I'd recommend you check out the alternatives, first.

Seems Excel Keeps Getting Worse 26 Sep 2011
By Gil Godwyn - Published on Amazon.com
I have a difficult time understanding how every successive version of excel is worse than the previous. There are so many annoying glitches in this version that I wonder how much time they even spent testing. I'm not just some Apple fanboy either. I thought Excel 2003 for windows was pretty good.
