I thought i was an expert at Excel spreadsheet until i purchased this book. I initially purchased it to learn more about downloading external datasources and creating queries. However, within 2 weeks i had mastered Pivot Tables, Macros and VBA quite easily. I have had to order further copies for work colleagues who are amazed at what work i am now producing. The instructions are easy to read with good example screen diagrams. The Bible also affords an excellent reference index. In addition the Bible has its own website enabling you to download examples to practise on. I would highly recommend it as an essential reference book for any office. It would also be ideal for any office personnel analyzing data in their daily work routine who require a bit more in their spreadsheets than just column and row totals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference book 28 Oct 1999

Format:Paperback
This is a very good book, however the writing style does take some getting used to. Once you are over this hurdle then this book is comprehensive. The accompanying files are a boon especially when training users in Excel and you need to have some examples to hand. Well worth buying

This is a great book if you have a strong foundation in Excel already. I don't, I like a book I can refrence without reading the whole chapter. Not something as simple minded as the Idiot books but a book I can quickly glance through to see what can be done and quick step by step guide.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for reference not for learning. 19 Feb 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Considering this book is so huge I thought it would of had some sort of tutorials or step by step examples, but there is none of that to be found. This is basically just a very detailed reference guide. For some of the more advanced functions in excel, such as macros, it really doesn't tell you exactly how to create them. If you know nothing about Excel, this might be something to checkout, as it covers everything, but if you are a more advanced Excel user, I don't recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling Exce 97 Learning Aid 9 Oct 1998
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I have had this book for quite some time, and I think it is fantasic. As a corporate trainer, I write the book information on the board in case the students want to buy a reference source. I also include the author's website, which is another cool source of information. For me, this book was something I skimmed at first, then read chapters pertinent to my own needs. Since then, I have started at the beginning to read each chapter page by page because there are lots of learning tips to be found that way. While there are a few typos and a couple of things that aren't perfect, I would not hestitate to buy anything Mr. Walkenbach writes because I think he did a superb job with this book. He used easy to understand terminology and descriptions, and shows a marvelous sense of humor while doing so. I can't wait to explore a book from him on Excel 97 Macros!

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Guide for Beginners and Refreshers 19 May 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Both layout and content of this Bible Series book are as good as the rest. It is a great aid if you want to get into Access and actually understand what you're doing (the basic concepts of Relational Database Design are well explained) and also if you just can't remember how to do something, or want to try something but aren't sure where to start. Not a professional's book at all, but useful nonetheless, particularly the enclosed CD.
