Manufacturer's Description

Lives are in your hands as you take on the role of a top surgeon at a busy city hospital. With eight authentically recreated surgical procedures in your repetoire, your skills are much in demand. You will need to keep your brain as sharp as your scalpel as you operate on fractures, remove an inflamed appendix or tonsils, treat infected gall bladders, attend to varicose veins, repair hernias, restore vision in cataract procedures and deal with the horrifying injuries of road traffic accidents.

Perform each operation using state of the art medical equipment, assisted by animated surgical staff. Make sure you monitor the vital signs of your patient and if blood pressure and heart rate falls be ready to intervene. You are the lead surgeon and split second decisions that lead to triumph and tragedy are carried on your shoulders alone.

You are equipped with the tools of the trade including scalpel, clamps, compresses, needles and sutures and a host of modern equipment, yet your greatest tools are your steady hands and an incisive mind.

Scrub up and enter the operating theatre. Your patients are prepped for surgery!

5.0 out of 5 stars An entirely tip top way to learn surgery! 25 Oct 2012
By DrDave
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
As a surgeon in training myself I must agree with the other reviewers and say this is an entirely brilliant way to learn an operation. Until playing 'Surgery Simulator' I had no idea how to remove a set of tonsils (being a general surgical trainee, rather than an ear, nose and throat trainee) but now i feel entirely prepared. Bravo.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ooh Matron 27 Aug 2011
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I'd a bit of time on my hands after my career as a road sweeper ended - another tragic victim of the recession. I was unsure which route to follow, then saw this game and decided to retrain as a surgeon. If Bertie Wooster can do it, why not me?

The game's very realistic, and feels just like working in the NHS. If you botch your operation, cutting out the wrong part, no-one whistles and the next patient is just wheeled in. After playing the game for 3 hours I feel confident enough to tackle my first live one. If young doctors played this simulator before operating on the living, death rates in our hospitals would plummet, and medical training could be reduced from 5 years to a week's intensive gaming.

The educational content is worth 5 stars, but I've had to deduct a star as none of the nurses look like a young Barbara Windsor.

I just can't wait for the Dignitas expansion pack.

5.0 out of 5 stars A learning experience 23 Mar 2011
By TeleSH
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Before I bought this game I was a bricklayer, and not a very good one at that. I had the dexterity of a two year old in the midst of an epilectic fit. However, having played this game for a month I donned some scrubs and walzed into the workers entrance of my local hospital. Such is the shortage of medical staff here no-one questioned my credentials, and by the end of the evening I'd performed two tonselectomies and a heart bypass. After a week the mortality rate had only risen 5%, and so I continue my game. If an operation is scheduled that I don't know, I just fire up the PC and have a practise- with the realism in this game I'd feel confident wielding a scalpel on my own daughter. I would give her a rhinoplasty, but shes fitted a bolt to her door and won't go to sleep until she hears me snoring now.

1.0 out of 5 stars A serious review! 30 Dec 2013
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
I really enjoy the joke reviews but I felt compelled to write a genuine one. I got this game as a Christmas present from someone who saw the overall 3/5* rating and thought it would be good (knowing I have an interest in simulator and medical games) because they didn't read the glowing reviews!

This game really is awful. I am one of those odd people who finds a lot of satisfaction in mundane, repetitive tasks, so I often enjoy games that others find boring. However I couldn't find anything good about Surgeon Simulator. It's pretty much eight (or is it nine?) mini-games, each being a complete operation. You follow instructions given by your nurse and visual guides, which all consist of clicking in particular ways, and that's it. You don't perform any diagnosis, the operations don't get harder, there is no storyline threading them together, nothing.

In short, there is no reason at all to buy this game and I'm pretty shocked that it was released as a finished product.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute life saver... 5 Aug 2011
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I was suffering from persistent headaches for a number of months but was too frightened to go and see my own doctor. Whilst browsing Amazon I saw this game and decided that THIS was the way forward. After it arrived I fired up my PC and loaded up this bad boy! A few simulations later and I was able to perform complex brain surgery on myself with the aid of a mirror, a can opener and a tube of glue. And a hairpiece. I now have so much confidence in my surgical skills that I intend to perform a kidney transplant on my wife as a surprise birthday present! I really can't wait to see the look on her face.

Thanks Surgery Simulator! A real life saver!
