1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Fritz 3 July 2012
By Peter TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
This is the story of a young worker called Fritz. He works for a building company in a small German town. Curiously, he's the only person who actually does anything: everyone else just stands and watches. Fritz need to drive all the vehicles himself, do all the excavating and then drive the lorryload of soil to the dump. He's not very good at driving, but that's OK, because he can drive on either side of the road, run over pedestrians and collide with lamp posts, cars and buildings without penalty.

Fritz spends a lot of time working on each stage of the projects. He completes his work in a thorough, linear way. He gets to use all the construction vehicles, although they are much harder to control using a computer keyboard than if they were fitted with steering wheels and levers. His projects are for prefabricated buildings, so as well as squirting concrete into foundations, he gets to manouvre panels into place using a crane.

Fritz has a seies of challenges to work through, and although his world is rendered in a passably realistic way, he does sometimes wonder if he could have chosen a more interesting and fulfilling life. Some of the tasks he has to undertake are repetitive, and last for quite a while with little sense of progress.

Fritz can't choose what work he does. Prospective purchasers have the choice whether to buy this game.

2.0 out of 5 stars Expensive and dated 26 July 2012

Construction Simulator is another rather strange offering from Excalibur Software. It is very expensive for what it is and looks extremely dated. Oddly rated 12 by BBFC this sim is really only going to have any appeal to those considerably younger. For more excitement try a painting and decorating simulator then enjoy watching the paint dry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it, and discover the meaning of life 2 Oct. 2013
By Neville
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
When I was a young lad I once temped over the summer holidays at a building site. My main tasks were to carry bags of cement from one questionably moist area to another, shovel dirt back into the hole I had dug and 'have a go' at building a wall (that didn't go terribly well). It was during those six short weeks that I fell in love with the repetitive tasks, dubious safety practices and of course excessively long and frequent tea breaks that make up a building site.

Unfortunately I took a wrong turn in life and ended up a successful and influential millionaire playboy. At nights I would sit in my living room, glass of single malt whisky in one hand, Cuban cigar in the other and openly weep down my baby unicorn lined dressing gown, the melodramatic mood enhanced by my private orchestra gently playing behind me.

But then I found this game on Amazon and it has given me a whole new lease on life. This construction simulator is far more than what its title suggests. My days are now filled with the sheer unbridled joy of pouring out concrete, moving a crane about a bit, driving into walls and lampposts without recrimination or issue, and most importantly, enjoying myself.

I gave away my wealth to a local donkey sanctuary, I don't need facile finance anymore, not that I now have this.

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I've tried the German Truck sim and enjoyed it and I thought it would be interesting to try this too. Loading was straightforward and the sim was simple to start up. The premise is simple; start at the bottom within the company, working on straightforward jobs within generous timescales.

However, as with my experiences of the previous sim, I found the controls somewhat clumsy and not overly intuitive or accurate. The user has the options of adjusting the game settings for usability or beauty but a better control setup would make a huge difference. I am somewhat limited to using the keyboard but an X-Box-type controller is an option that I might need to consider if I wanted to get the best from the game. Overall it is an interesting sim and pretty well thought out but those controls do let it down. Left hand drive is also a bit of a drag but that is what it is, nothing major really. Good concept overall and enjoyable.

This was purchased for my son who absolutely loves it. We only ordered it on a Thursday and we were pleasantly "shocked" when it was delivered the following Monday. Maximum stars for prompt delivery, great graphics and speed of the game. Well Done!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my cup of tea! 21 Mar. 2013

Well. I gave it a fair trial but, no, this is just not an exciting concept and does not really entertain the player in my opinion.
The graphics are OK and it's quite fun to begin with but the idea wears a bit thin after a while. I think I started to avoid playing it after the 4th session and that's not a good sign. I think there are better game ideas out there than this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for kids 13 Aug. 2012
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Not the best graphics if you're used to adult offerings in gaming, but fine for kids up to 8 I'd say.
Easy to install, and an easy start - a good entry to computer games/sims for young kids, although a little over-priced given the simplicity.
