This cable does not ground pin 5 of the mini-A plug and therefore it is not an OTG cable. Grounding the ID pin should inform the OTG device to behave as a USB host (master) rather than a USB target (slave). Some devices might still work if they can be forced into host mode, or if they automatically work in host mode anyway. However, don't rely on this cable to work with OTG compliant devices.
Having said that, the cable is fairly robust and is better made than many I've bought recently.

I bought this adapter to try to get as much as possible out of my N700 Commtiva tablet aka Commtiva FM6 7-inch Android 2.2 Touchscreen Tablet PC which has a mini usb socket but little else for input. The adapter works fine: it allows me to connect a usb stick ( or a sd card with its own adpater turning it inot a usb) to the tablet and to read any files on the usb using the file browser on the tablet. It doesn't seem to work with usb players but that's not a problem with the adapter. There's a whole bunch of information on the net, especially Wikipedia about master/slave relationships if you want to find out more about how the tablet is now driving the usb. Before buying this I did see comments on the web from others that said you won't be able to connect mice or keyboards and get them to work and sadly this seems to be true.

Ex-Pro OTG Cable Adapter Mini USB A-plug - USB A-Socket

I was looking for something to plug into my archos 705 in the port for added media, and this works perfectly, I plugged in a usb stick and played amovie from it. I also plugged in a card reader and it read from the cards.
an equivalent from archos was more than twice as much.

Good adaptor that was delivered pretty quickly. Only issue I've had is that the USB A female end is a bit slack and can sometimes not connect fully. A bit of jiggling sorts it out.
