5.0 out of 5 stars Award Winning., 23 Jul 2004

"Science with the squishy bits left in!
Why are we here, when other creatures have been turned to stone, for ever? 'Evolve or Die' digs up the dirt on survival and extinction. Find out......when bacteria and slime ruled the earth, why mutating mosquitoes are man's worst enemy, which dinosaurs let loose some deafening f*rts(!) and why rabbits eat their own poo!
So you think you can stomach the 'sick' side of science? Then go back millions of years to see insects as big as birds, fish with teeth and why chimps could be related to you.
With fantastic fact files and curious quizzes, teacher tests and crazy cartoons, 'Evolve or Die' is heaving with info!
Science has never been so horrible!"
Well that's what it says on the cover...and that is what is in the book!
A brilliantly written book by Phil Gates and superbly illustrated by Tony de Saulles.
Definitely one for bedtime reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Undergraduate Perspective, 17 Oct 2003
By A. Tennant "ginner_33dg" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Phil Gates is an interesting guy, it comes across in his lectures at the University of Durham and it comes across in this book.

Ok, it's not intended for undergraduates but it does do what it intends to; promote an interest and an understanding in evolution in a younger or non-scientific audience. Don't be put off by the cover, it's a book that adults can read too. It uses simple language and examples to explain the concepts and workings of a complex issue. If you have a passing interest in human or animal origins, wonder what happened to the dinosaurs or fancy an insight into what it's all about, yet don't want to take the big step I decided to and spend three years of your life studying then this should meet your needs.

Oh, and if you're fortunate enough to attend a Phil Gates lecture he may well be kind enough to sign your copy too.

Keep up the good work!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book from the series "horrible science", 30 April 2001
By A Customer
My book is called "Evolve or Die." It was written by Phil Gates and illustrated by Tony De Saulles. The book is about anything that evolves and practically anything to do with evolving. I really love this book because its series "Horrible Science" is all about science but in a hilarious, descriptive way. These books are excellent because they teach science in a fun way. The thing I love about these books is that there is always something funny or facinating going on. My judgement on this excellent book is an extraordinary 9.5/10. I encourage anyone and everyone to read it!!!
