Image of Brutal Truth

It is doubtful the most extreme end of the musical spectrum has ever possessed such a transfixing dichotomy as BRUTAL TRUTH. The band progressed with boundless enthusiasm through the primal fury of traditional grindcore and hardcore punk. They attacked suffocating city life on the edge of the 21st century and its media noise overload with the bare-knuckled forcefulness of passion, conviction ... New York's Brutal Truth have been one of the forefathers of extreme metal since their debut album, the wonderfully titled and groundbreaking `Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses' back in 1992. The problem for the band is that they have yet to better that seminal and very influential release and this; their latest album is no exception. Although this current opus could very well be their best long player since their debut, indeed time will tell. All subsequent albums have been very mixed affairs, always reliable for a selection of barbaric yet memorable grind assaults but just as evident have been too many filler tracks and unstructured noise just for the sake of brutality. This, along with the fact that after 1994's Need to Control the band underwent a transformation into a pure grindcore outfit thus eschewing all remnants of their industrial/deathgrind past which was so devastatingly evident on their debut and still traceable on their follow up.

The band unexpectedly split in 1998, thus Evolution through Revolution (2009) can be considered a comeback album of sorts. There are 20 tracks in total, about half of which are well crafted, memorable and worthy of repeated plays, which is a significant higher proportion than previous releases since their debut. Unfortunately however, there are too many tracks which showcase grindcore that is carried to a ridiculous extreme, albeit in a very competent manner as all the members can certainly play their instruments with great ability. At times this extremity is taken to excessive abandon which just highlights the rudimentary nature of some of the music. And although I'm sure this is exactly the bands intention, noise for the sake of noise is just that, and gives the impression that the band are not in control of their instruments.

Faster than you can comprehend! 8 Jun 2010

It is quite literally like having a steam roller drive over you for 30 minutes as your teeth grind into the asphalt. Yet it is much faster than that. For anyone who has ever had racing thoughts; pop this album on your turntable and prepare to get psycho. This is my first Brutal Truth album. I need them all now.

Psychedelic Firemaster is a friggin moron 21 Oct 2009
By Self Induced - Published on Amazon.com

Psychedelic Firemaster (what a retarded name), one of the previous people that reviewed this CD was whining like a little bitch because he's under 18 and Brutal Truth recently played an over 18 show in his area and he couldn't go to the show. first of all you dumbass, over 18 shows are a decision of the club owners and the concert promoters, not the bands or their management. and second of all, stop being such a little bitch and get over it. over 18 shows are very common, so deal with it. I couldn't go to many shows when I was under 18 for the same reason. eventually you'll be 18 and you'll be able to go to more shows. so just be patient and shut the hell up, you baby.

to everyone else, this is Brutal Truth's best album they've done, and the pinnacle of their grinding career. I highly recommend showing the band your support, and paying your hard earned money for a brand new (not a used) copy of this CD.

goddamaged goods 4 Aug 2009

with 'evolution through revolution' BT have shaken off the dust and emerged stranger than ever (relentlessly xchanging an invigorated alpha for an outdated omega...); re-taking their rightful place among the leaders of grind - deservedly so. time seems to have only sharpened their lethal edge, surpassing - undeniably - even past efforts...'sugar daddy' is the sound of a prized thoroughbred double-barreling the other horses straight out of the gate

enjoy the melee; this is mostly neck-snaping tai-chi
