A strange mix this one. It's a cheapo re-release of the Doctor Who 25th Anniversary album and as such features the four versions of the theme used to 1988, the original Delia Derbyshire version stands out as the best of them, though.

The rest of the album features some of Keff McCulloch's incidental music from seasons 24 and 25. While the cues from Remembrance of the Daleks and Paradise Towers are understated, distinctive and exciting, the remainder is over-computerised and crammed full of bog-standard drum-machinery.

A must have if you missed the original BBC CD though, especially for the four versions of Ron Grainer's signature tune.

Oh dear! This sorry selection of mediocrity shows the depths to which Doctor Who's previously groundbreaking music sank during its twilight years in the 1980s when the main incidental composer was Keff McCulloch, rather than the sublime Dudley Simpson.

There are redeeming features to this CD but they are few and far between, namely the variations of the theme tune, which, apart from the appalling mid-late 80s versions, are superb. However these are available in far better quality on the vastly superior BBC Radiophonic Workshop releases along with many more interesting and worthy tracks than here. Music lovers - and anyone else - steer well clear of this CD and get the BBC discs (Vols 1-4 released so far) instead!

One token star for the presence of the theme music, zero for the incidentals - I still think that's too much to give it!

This CD contains 4 distinctly different versions of the title theme from the programme (the original 60s-70s with TARDIS effect, the early 80s, the mid 80s/'Trial of the Time Lord', and the late 80s - intro and exit themes). It also contains some terrible incidental music from the equally terrible seasons 24-25 (1987-1988). There is ONE very important reason to own this CD however. Although all of the other Doctor Who themes seem to be available elsewhere, and usually in better quality and at greater length, this is the ONLY CD I have ever been able to find that contains the unique and excellent Dominic Glynn version from season 23 - 'the Trail of the Time Lord' (which I consider to be the 6th Doctor's definitive theme as the previous season was merely a slight rehash of the early 80s theme). That makes this CD unique and a must have - if only for that reason. Unless, of course, you happened to hate that version.
