I'm a regular gym goer who was looking to get back into weights more as I'd been largely doing cardio for the past few years. I saw an article, I think in mens health, about Joe and his training and it sounded like the kind of thing that would interest me so got my order in.

First negative is when I got the book I couldn't get away from my girlfriend as there a lots of pictures of Joe working out in it.

The workouts are 6 days a week for a 6 week programme. A combination of free weights, fixed weight machines and body weight exercises. Plus low-med cardio and abs workouts added in on specific days. You'll work chest and back Mon, Legs & Tri's Tue, Bi's and delt's Wed, then do the same Thu, Fri and Sat but with a different routine.

First couple of weeks are high rep, high set superset circuits and it gradual lowers the sets and reps but you'll do triple and quadruple exercise sets in the circuits as the weeks progress.

The good stuff.
I like the no nonse, straight forward and honest way this book is presented. Joe is clear this isn't one of those celebrity quick fix exercise books. It takes dedication and hard work. This book is as much about getting your mindset right as it is about the workouts.

The not so good stuff.
The workouts can be a bit of a pain to do. For example, you will be supersetting different body parts. So first exercise may be on a bench at one side of the gym, then you might have to head to the other side of the gym to get on the lat pulldown machine. It gets worse when there are triple and quadruple sets going where you need 4 bits of kit ! So you either need a huge gym with lots of kit or you need to be be training when the gym is quiet. That's the reason I give this a 4 not a 5.

This is one of the best read in the body building genre. the whole book talking concisely about the important bullet points and leave the unimportant or can-lead-to-discussion topic away.

i am following his regime and seeing some really good results. the good thing is you have to follow just him ..and nothing else. you will have to empty your glass before you can fill joe in there ;)

recommending for anyone who is passionate about the good body.

Good ideas but if working out in public gym would have to hope gym empty as lots of excercises done in super sets and require time

Quite possibly the best fitness book I've ever read; I used to exercise quite a bit before and even dabbed into weightlifting as well, but never got such amazing results.
The programme is very VERY challenging, especially as a woman, but the results are truly amazing.
I've lost considerable bodyfat, doubled my strength and am shaping a great fit body. Also, besides the great training programme, Joe talks a lot about the emotional challenges as well, which builds up the reader's confidence significantly.
If you're a beginner or even advanced, this book is priceless, I highly recommend it!

Excellent book! If you loookng for that no-frills guide to health and fitness, this is the book for you. It pulls no punches and is not full of magic-bullet philosophies on getting your self fit, it's a simple "kick in the backside" to get you moving. Joe advocates nothing more than hard graft and discipline, and guides you through a starter program that is simply stunning in it's simplicity, but gut wrenching how difficult it is. Drop the weight, drop the ego, do it right and grow!!

Having done the first two weeks of his program, I can honestly say that this is by far the best fitness advice money can buy and you can see results very quickly as long as you put the effort in!

This is NOT your usual Hollywood workout program.... this is hard, hard graft.... buy this now, read it, do what he tells you and you wont regret it.

Excellent book if you take it seriously and follow the instructions properly. Don't overload with weight and focus on form, speed and rest times. I used it to the letter for 7 weeks and saw a massive difference although I leaned out a little too much due to the cardio and not enough calories during the day. The pics of each exercise is very useful especially if you aren't familiar with some of them. Nutrition could have been elaborated on to assist the reader and the same with supplements but the main plan and mindset of the book is excellent and very motivational. Definitely the best gym/routine book I've ever read.
