The design of the power supply on my PURE Evoke DAB radio has always been a problem waiting to happen. The transformer got quite hot in use and its heavy design was always likely to cause the wire to break at its entrance point. When this happened I looked for a suitable and better designed replacement. The recently purchased item is much lighter; keeps cool and my radio is back up working fine. Initially I thought the postage cost was high, but the reason for this is due to the product being sent by the Royal Mail First Class 'Signed For' service.

First class replacement. I thought I had been sent the wrong item as it was much smaller. It even went through my letter box. Best of all it runs a lot cooler. The original PSU was very warm under normal use. Great value for money.

I was looking for a replacement mains adapter for a Pure Evoke-1 radio, an early model which needs a 12V mains adapter. The information provided for this adapter suggests it is suitable, but on receipt I found the connector looks very similar but does not make good contact in the back of the radio, so the radio only operates intermittently when you hold the connector at the right angle - clearly unacceptable. As I am an electrical engineer I swapped the new connector for the old one, and it works fine. However note that swapping the connectors is not that simple, and you need to check carefully that the connector is connected the right way round so that the +12V is on the centre of the connector. You can't rely on the stripe and plain markings on the cable - I found they had to be swapped to get the right polarity of connector. If you are looking for a replacement adapter for a Pure Evoke-1, bear in mind it may not work unless you have the skills and equipment to swap the connector.
