Product Description

Product Description

Evita or Disco Evita as it was called at the time was Disco pioneer Boris Midney s biggest commercial success and was a No. 1 Billboard Disco album at the time of release. It was commissioned by head or RSO Records
Robert Stigwood and what sounds like a potential disaster on paper turned out to be amazingly well received.

Disco Recharge is pleased to bring you the definitive version of Boris Midney s re-imagining of the Andrew Lloyd- Webber/Tim Rice hit musical. This special edition includes the very rare 12 edits that were only released as promo s at the time as well as both the 7 and 12 versions of the hit single Don t Cry For Me Argentina.

Because Evita was such a success Stigwood then asked Midney to add his Disco magic to the blockbuster follow up to Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back and disc two features his unique take on the John Williams score.

Seem to be in a slight minority but Evita Disco is one of my favourite classic vinyls and now available CD.

It's bursting to the brim with the best of everything from the disco era, thumping beats, soaring strings, funky brass, saxophones, harps etc, not to mention interesting breaks and great vocals to sing your heart out to!

Apart from the original album in its entirety, it also contains a condensed rather than edited version in the form of the RSO promo 12" mix, which still retains most its original essence.

"Don't Cry..." 7" and Mexican 12" mix with its extended "tango" breaks.

CD 2 seems to fade a little into obscurity, sounds a little more like early Vince Montana Jnr than Boris, and the Star Wars main theme should definitely have been left to Meco!

Have also purchased Boris' other works (Masquerade, Companion, USA European Connection) but none have come close to this masterpiece!

PS Can we have Meco's Wizard Of OZ next please, GIMME CHEESE!!!

This is lovely! Some tracks are really over the top but that's how disco is supposed to be when at it's best.
STANDOUT TRACK: Eva's Theme (Lady Woman) - this is pure DISCO HEAVEN!
Strings, brass, great vocals and choirs.

The Empire Strikes back is also great but a bit more laid back. Not like Meco if you catch my drift...
STANDOUT TRACK: Han Solo And The Princess (Love Theme) - Dreamy and lovely and lush and romantic! It's a slow track, really excellent.

I don't know if compiler Mr. Pinks and booklet writer Alan Jones really adores the works of disco producer Boris Midney, or if they just got a good deal on the licenses of his work.

OK, it is technically music and production of high quality. And even if the original albums were commissioned work, they are quite cheesy and not very interesting today. Yes, I even prefer the Star Wars disco of Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk Reco. It may not be as sophisticated, but it is so much more fun.

If you are interested in the disco world of Boris Midney, I recommend Disco Recharge: Boris Midney Vol 1 Make That Feeling Come Again! / Caress - Special Edition. It is enough for most disco geeks.
