Having seen and/or heard all the London (sadly except for Elaine Paige in 1978) and touring productions plus the movie (and even bought the Spanish language production from Madrid) and the 1976 original version, I had high hopes for this soundtrack. I'm a fan of Ricky Martin but sadly he's out of his depth here: sure he can hit the notes but his diction is all over the place and there's very little emotion in his delivery. Pity that. Elena Roger delivered a powerhouse performance in the London 2006 production and she still delivers on this album. Her passion and fire really add so much depth to her performance.
For me, "Evita" up to 2006 developed from an amazing show into an all-encompassing, superb show utilising elements from the incredible film - I think Madonna's voice has never sounded better. This show has a very special place in my heart and always will have. However, I shall be saving my pennies and won't be travelling to NY to see Ricky.
Buy this just to add to your collection if, like me, you're a fan of the show. However, I think the 2006 London soundtrack is the definitive version.
