(Jim Edgar, author of Bad Cat )

Product Description

More brilliant black humour from Elia Anie.

In the hugely successful EVIL PENGUINS Elia Anie bravely exposed the dark underbelly of the animal kingdom. Now with EVIL CATS she is taking on an enemy far closer to home...

Think cats are sweet, fluffy creatures with big eyes that can melt even the hardest of hearts? Think again. Violent, devious and utterly amoral, in 95 hilarious cartoons Elia Anie will show all the reprehensible depths to which their behaviour can sink. EVIL CATS confirms once and for all that felines are as capable of dastardly deeds as any other member of the animal kingdom.

Apparently, the follow-up for last year's Evil Penguins is already out. This is another animal-themed cartoon book in the same genre as Bunny Suicides or the Far Side, and if you like those, I'd expect you'd like this as well. The author seems to prefer wide ranging subjects rather than just focusing narrowly on the stardard cat behaviours and jokes. So instead of getting a book full of the same jokes done a dozen ways each, you have them with their paws in everything, from the death of Cleopatra to the current financial crisis.

Notably, some of the drawings are devilishly clever in mixing comedy with something more - like cats waterboarding your stuffed toys while you're away, for example. I'm sure one or two of the more obscure references will be too remote for some, but I rather enjoy the depth that went into both this and Anie's prior work.

Highly recommended, for both cat owners and fans of the style in general.

Tired of Garfield? 22 Nov 2010

Then this may be the book for you. I enjoyed Elia Anie's EVIL PENGUINS, and this book is very much in the same style of humour. Cat owners that own shelves of cute cat books may chuckle at the exploits of these felines as well as anyone looking for a hilarious cartoon book. Makes a great gift throughout the year (and a nice thing to have at your desk at work for little social breaks).

A good diversionary little book. The Evil cat is an amiable character despite the naughtiness. I've enjoyed leafing through the book a few times and always fun to watch other people's reaction when I show them evil cat's exploits!
