Very inspiring! 30 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
I bought this book mainly because I saw pictures of the recipes on Shazzie's website, but also because I am hoping for a baby in the near future. I found the book lovely to read and wonderful to look at with all the colours and beautiful pictures. There is a lot of inspiration in this book, whether you are a raw vegan or not - I found a lot of interesting and fascinating recipe ideas to try out and enhance my food experience. The recipes are not only for children!
I disagree with other reviews saying Shazzie comes across as arrogant and patronising. Take the book for what it is - an inspiration, and not a bible that needs to be followed religiously (which I believe is never the intention of the author neither!).
I can recommend this book especially to vegans (mums or not) who wish to gain some further insight into the implications of a vegan diet and how to make it yummie and exciting without risking deficiencies.

Evie's kitchen 17 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
Shazzie goes a long way to explain the concept of bringing up a child in the raw world. She talks about nutrition in detail for a child on a raw vegan diet and also suggestions if you don't follow that. Any diet should be tailored to individual needs anyway, but this is definitely a great start.
There are loads of very simple and delicious recipes that are not only great for children but adults too. Highly recommended.

This book is divided into two sections. The first is an interesting account of Shazzie's experiences of pregnancy, birth and raising her child, interspersed with honest and frank views on relationship complexities and many other issues that modern parents face when raising a child. I found Shazzie's approach to parenting so refreshing as many parenting books just give the same advice over and over again, but Shazzie's views are fresh and exciting.

The second is all the gorgeous recipes that you would expect of Shazzie. Some are simple to make, others require an investment in two key bits of equipment - a high-powered blender and a dehydrator. Many recipes are really simple and require no extra gadgetry, so are suitable for anyone looking to start introducing raw foods into their child's diet.
