Product Description

Review

"Evidence–based Medicine Toolkit (2nd edition) serves a long time need for an evidence–based medicine (EBM) book that is both reliable yet does not intimidate the reader by its voluminous size…It is a highly portable book…that could easily fit into students’ coat pockets and is immensely readable and complete…The excellent layout of the book with its prominent display of key tables containing relevant information stands out and make these tools readily usuable. In summary, the text is handy and well organised and offers comprehensive information on EBM for both medical students and busy practitioners conversant with the basic principles of EBM."

EBM Volume 11, August 2006

This is an excellent book. I have found it very useful in teaching and in clinical practice. I use it teaching EBM to 4th year medical students. It is both detailed and succinct and very clearly written. Want to buy one easy to follow yet comprehensive book on EBM? This is it.

Simple and Helpful EBM Book 6 May 2007
By B. Mann - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Those of us with training in internal medicine, epidemiology, and statistics have something in common: we don't get invited to a lot of parties! After all, we are fascinated by the very things that scare away most people: numbers, statistics, decision-making theory. And there's no question that some of the tools and concepts of EBM -- based as they are in arcania -- can be off-putting to physicians or medical students who got into medicine for the reward of direct patient care.

But what has become evident over the last twenty years is that applying the tools of knowledge to the practice of medicine leads to better decision making, and sometimes saves our patients from experiencing therapies that do them scant good. This little book nicely summarizes many of the tools and techniques that can help the practicing physician make better decisions. In addition, it can be of value to medical students and residents struggling (a) to understand decision-making and (b) to find time to read anything at all. To the last point, the size of this book is a boon.

This book isn't always easy to read, it won't make you a better conversationalist at dinner, and it won't make you seem interesting to your friends. But it might help you take care of patients in a less subjective and more objective manner.

Excellent Primer/Summary of EBM Concepts 10 Feb 2008
By R. Gonzalez - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is an excellent summary of the concepts of EBM. It also can serve as a Primer on EBM. It clearly presents the basic concepts of Evidence Based Medicine, with an excellent set of flow diagrams that illustrate how to carry out the EBM processes. It also provides a very good set of questions to assess the validity of the different types of medical articles. An important point to be kept in mind is that although the topics are presented in a very clear manner, they are not meant for in-depth learning of EBM. There are more in depth books for that particular purpose such as Bandolier's Little Book of Making Sense of the Medical Evidence, Strauss' Evidence Based Medicine, or Jenicek's Foundations of Evidence Based Medicine. This Toolkit of EBM is a great value and an excellent way to refresh EBM concepts.
research paper 1 April 2011
By foxylady - Published on Amazon.com

I used this book to help me write a paper for one of my graduate level research classes. This book is small but mighty. There is so much information packed into this little book. It helped me a lot to clarify different terminology involved with research. I used it as a reference quite a bit. I had other books but this one seemed to break things down and it was straight to the point. I was able to get an "A" in my class. I recommend this book to anyone who has to write a research paper.
