Product Description

“I had been searching for an apologetics text that lays out the evidence in a way I could explain it to a non-Christian. This book is it! Thorough coverage of the evidence, excellently documented, and piercingly convincing.” (Dr. Rosemary J. Avery—Weiss Presidential Fellow—Cornell University)

As Christians, we shouldn’t be defensive about our beliefs, but we should learn to intelligently defend our faith to those around us. In Evidence Unseen, James Rochford offers accessible and careful thinking on the current popular attacks against the Christian worldview. In Evidence Unseen, you will find:
• Solid evidence for why belief in God is both reasonable and logical for thinking people today.
• A response to the New Atheism (e.g. Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris, and Christopher Hitchens).
• Counterarguments to the claims of popular biblical critics (e.g. Bart Ehrman, Elaine Pagels, etc.).
• How biblical prophecy predicted Jesus of Nazareth centuries in advance.
What Christians need today in apologetics is clarity and accessibility. With simple and direct language, clever illustrations, and a down to earth approach, this is the book to give to a spiritual seeker or a skeptic; a doubting Christian or to study in a small group.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read Book for Christians and Investigators of Christianity 15 May 2013
By Harry - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
As a college student majoring in Biochemistry, I believed that in order to become a Christian, a person had to "place their mind on the shelf." I didn't believe in Jesus because I believed it required blind faith. It wasn't until I was presented with the evidence that James Rochford covers in his book Evidence Unseen: Exposing the Myth of Blind Faith, that I came to the realization that there was a wealth of evidence pointing to the plausibility and reasonableness of the Christian faith.

Rochford does an excellent job explaining the various lines of evidence, such as evidence from science, predictive prophecy within the Bible, the historicity of the Bible and historical evidence from outside the Bible. Where Rochford excels, in my opinion, is the way in which he presents opposing views or interpretations to the evidence for the existence of God and the reasonableness of the Christian Faith. Rochford quotes directly from the writings of those who hold opposing views and then provides his thoughtful evaluation and critique of their positions.

If you are investigating the claims of Christianity (or you know someone who is), I highly recommend this book. If you are follower of Jesus who struggles with doubt from time to time (don't we all!) or you want to strengthen your faith in Jesus, then this book is a must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Apologetics communicated well! 10 May 2013
By Tyler Wriston - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
Rochford is a top tier communicator. Unlike most apologetic books I've read which are either too dense and technical or too watered down to communicate anything of value, the balance of Evidence Unseen puts it in a category of it's own.

Rochford is able to communicate evidence for the Biblical worldview in a way that is logically sound, thoroughly convincing, and intentionally accessible.Clearly well read and culturally relevant, Rochford is able to cite and critique the views of his opponents with intellectual honesty and humility.

Through the use of vivid analogies and examples, Rochford shows that he has a deep concern for his readers to understand the material. This book is written such that even young students will be able to comprehend material that would otherwise be way over their heads.

This would be a great book to study if you're curious about whether God exists or not or if you want to learn to communicate intelligently about such topics with others. I highly reccommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Evidence Unseen Review 10 May 2013
By Mitch R. - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
Evidence Unseen is the book you want if you are sharing your faith and the person has questions about whether it makes sense to believe the Christian message. I have often heard from friends "there is no proof that God exists or that Christianity is right." James Rochford's book does not PROVE Christianity, but it gives excellent evidence that Christianity is true.

This book is conversationally written as opposed to a book by William Lane Craig or other apologists. James effectively uses analogies to explain abstract or hard to understand points. It's clear the he has done his reading from the quotes from people like Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins. His humor and examples keep the book entertaining. This book about apologetics is so understandable it could be read by a High School student.

I recommend James' book to any Christian who is sharing their faith and is looking for a resource on apologetics. It would also be good for someone who has had doubts about their faith and need answers. Finally, if you are someone who is investigating Christianity I would highly recommend this book. Rochford's book provides some compelling evidence that Christianity is the only worldview that makes any sense.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why don't more people know about this stuff??!! 10 Jun. 2013
By Michael - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
That was the question asked by two of my adamantly atheist and agnostic friends after looking at several of the arguments laid out by Rochford in this book. Both are now Christians because of the intellectually compelling evidence they saw.

The most compelling arguments to my two friends were found in:
-Chapter 3: "The Origin of the Universe"
-Chapter 4: "The Organization of the Universe"
-Part 3: "Evidence from Predictive Prophecy"
-Chapter 10: "Timeframe (How Early are the Documents?)"
-Chapter 11: "Transmission (Do We Read What They Wrote?)"
-Part 5: "Making up Your Mind"
-After looking at the material found in the above chapters, they said the material from "Part One: Internal Evidence for God" became more compelling.

The writing style is clear. Rochford references many experts in each chapter, cites sources for further inquiry, and clarifies confusing subjects through accessible illustrations. All in all, this book is an excellent exposé of evidence that is largely unseen.

This book brings to light:
-Why a number of Rabbis purposely skip over Isaiah 53 when publicly reading the prophets (chapter 5)
-The one word that, according to Ayn Rand, blasts the objective morality out of altruism (chapter 1)
-The scientific evidence that led a leading atheistic author to God (chapter 4)
-Why textual critics view the transmission of the New Testament as more reliable than any other ancient document in existence (chapter 11)
-And more evidence that leaves people asking, "Why don't more people know about this stuff??!!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful 1 Jun. 2013
By J. White - Published on
As a healthcare professional who is interested in discussing the Christian worldview to a well educated and thoughtful community of co-workers, Evidence Unseen gave me a broad understanding in a variety of areas of currently debated topics. I felt Rochford's chapters on predictive prophecy are especially helpful and this book will remain a valued resource on my bookshelf for years to come.

The down to earth language and well organized structure of this book, combined with the authors astute grasp of the content was very refreshing!
