3.0 out of 5 stars Outlook could have been rosier! 26 Sep 2006
By Tracy Vest - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Elusive bachelor Doug reluctantly attends his cousin Lilibeth's weeklong celebration leading up to her nuptials. It is guaranteed to be the social event of the decade, if his scheming Aunt Bette has anything to say about it. He manages to make friends with feisty Rosie, and the two decide to be each other's paramour to keep hopeless matchmaker Aunt Bette from trying to make a love connection for each of them.

Toss in a bride that spends the majority of her time in her room crying; a family-less groom who doesn't seem to have much interest in his bride-to-be; a horny mother of the bride who beds down half the wedding band; a father of the bride who'd rather be on the golf course; and a wedding planner who'll have a nervous breakdown any second, and you have the makings of a comical week spent with some pretty colorful characters.

Michaels tries once again to go for the laughs in this sequel to "Stuck in Shangri La," but oftentimes the comedy falls flat. The overpopulated story is saved by the primary couple - two confirmed singles that cannot help but fall for each other.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy Tracy and Hepburn !!--this book is fabulous!! 1 Sep 2006

Typically I don't trust HQN novels because some of them are just too dumb, but I went out on a limb for this one and picked a baker's dozen of gorgeous long stems for my effort. It's tough to write a smart romantic comedy and this writer got it just perfect. Both the male and female lead are interesting adults who decide to have some "adult" fun during a week-long house party prior to a high society wedding. One thing leads to another, plus one caper after another--all wrapped around smart dialogue creating a delicious escape. Grab a plate of something delish, a fav beverage, put your feet up and get ready to relax and enjoy this gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a lot more realistic than you'd think! 6 Jun 2007
By J. Myrna RottenRomance - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I have to admit that part of the draw to this book is that it so mirrors how my husband and I met. The wedding chaos that so strikes other reviewers as too absurd to be real is surprisingly close the wedding chaos that took place all those years ago. Even the characters in our own romance had strange names!

I could relate on so many levels to Rosie, and not just for the reasons listed above. Her discussion on wombs was dead on, and her slightly skewed outlook on life made me want to be her friend.

Doug is funny, charming, and finally growing up (it only took 40 years!). His apology for the entirety of the male gender endeared him to me greatly.

If you're looking for a fun (quick) contemporary romance, this book is it. Not only is it well written, as I've found all Kasey Michaels books to be) but you can rest more easily knowing that it there's at least one couple out here in the real world who has lived through the experience and can attest to how (scarily) accurate it is in some places, how fun it was at the time, and what great memories it gave us (not to mention a great story to tell our kids).
