Amazon.co.uk Review

This album is huge. That might sound a wonderful thing: epic scope, lush arrangements, dizzying eclecticism. But no; Everything Picture, as the name might suggest, is a case of the let's-throw-in-the-kitchen-sink-as-well approach to ambition, and while in the case of the Beta Band, this can lead to some gloriously addled pile-ups, Ultrasound have decided to stretch their few good ideas shamefully thin. Over 102 minutes, and straddling the diverse genres of glam-rock, prog-psychedelia and ambient techno, it stands to reason that Ultrasound should hit the mark a few times. "Stay Young2 is a slow-burning wonder, and the sleek, concise "Same Band" barely sounds like the, uh, same band that's responsible for Everything Picture's bloated forty-minute finale. Sure, Everything Picture has some sweet peaks; so plentiful is the dross, though, it's about as satisfying as fishing for pennies in the dustbin. --Louis Pattison

When you hear a new album, there is a period early on when you are becoming familiar with the music and getting to like it; I think of this as the 'up curve'. Then there's a plateau, followed by overfamiliarity and then you stop listening to the record. 'Everything Picture' has the biggest and longest 'up curve' of any record I have ever heard. It is over-produced, long and noisy I admit, but the songs are each individually brilliant, clever, impeccably performed, and painstakingly put together. What a generous record! The intros and outro's are sometimes worthy of a single in themselves, and the imaginative use of 'found sounds', feedback and overdubs is unlike anything I have heard before. No wonder it took so long to be released. There is a strong sense throughout that the band loved this music and cared deeply about getting it right. They succeeded. They've split up now so there won't be any more. This is your only chance.

When you feel like you only have one shot, you make the best of it and put in everything you've got. This was Ultrasound's one shot to make a mark on the musical landscape, and in my opinion, they've made a crater the size of Texas. As many styles and influences as you'd care to mention, Tiny Woods and co. have thrown in every idea and whim they have ever had - and we are the ones who benefit from their hard work. With the last track suffereing from a 40 minute section of bad-noise, all the other tracks range between ear-bleeding rock and haunting beauty. This sprawling, diverse album will leave you shocked and wishing that they had never left us.

This is one of those albums you buy without really Knowing what to expect. This album is a blue print for what all rock groups should strive for. Utter perfection. It is a mix of pink floyd, the beatles, the clash, the who and pere ubu. This album has everything. Lyrics that bob dylan would be proud of, melodies that the beatles would bow to, a production that could have been done by pink floyd or at other times brian wilson, the energy of the jam , the musical skill of the stone roses or led zepplin and the vocals of roger daltrey or john lennon. This album could appeal to any fans of real music including all of those previously mentioned. My favourite song change from day to day and i can never choose any favourites. Anyone who knows stay young, floodit world or same band can expect more of the same. After about a week of listening to this i wnet out and bought everything i could find by them (i'm still looking if anyone has anything). they've split up now(though they'll surley be back at some point) so buy this now while you still can, you won't be disappointed.

Ultrasound were 5 complete misfits making one beautiful album. Same Band, Aire and Calder and all the others combine to create a joyous, positive record which reaches me like so very few others. It's a real shame to know that they're no longer, and was very happy to such a special moment for ever.
