great recipes 3 Aug 2011
Format:Paperback
Some of the weights and measurements are difficult to follow due to the American origin but you soon get used to this. Recipes are good and have a stated calorie content. Most meals are based on 6 people sharing and therefore you will need to do the maths to work out amount of ingredients for less people. Generally recipes are simple and tasty.

Buying this book was a real mistake. Firstly its American so some of the ingredients are not available here. Secondly the recipes are in the main rubbish. I am an qualified cook and I did'nt find a sensible recipe in the book worth cooking. Not much useful information either, all in all a waste of money. Couldn't recommend this book.

Introductory Book to the Diet 8 Mar 2011
By Benjamin Kantor - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book explains the Mediterranean Diet very well. It has sections on the weight loss and health benefits that the diet affords you. It also has a diagram of the Mediterranean Diet pyramid and explains how many servings of each type of food you are allowed. It also talks about the benefits of the Mediterranean lifestyle, and explains how active you need to be to help achieve your goals of changing your eating habits. In addition to explaining the diet, the book also offers a lot of recipes that follow the diet. I think the recipes are easy enough, and I can't wait to try them all. I probably will purchase additional books later on in the diet that have more complex recipes, but since I'm just starting out this is just right.

1 star for being SO misleading - and UNhealthy! 17 Dec 2011
By TheCafeWriter - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The value in this book is in the first 88 pages ONLY, where it describes a Mediterranean diet and how to select fish, produce, and other foods in the grocery store.

That is where "healthy" ends. There aren't "100 healthy recipes." Far from it! The pork with leeks and celery has 997 calories and fully 71 grams of fat PER SERVING. Soutzoukakia: 638 calories, 46 grams fat. Stifado: 776 calories, 60 grams of fat. Does it get better with fish? Baked sea bream: 508 calories, 41 grams of fat. How about chicken? Chicken with yogurt: 921 calories and 53 grams of fat. For CHICKEN. Per SERVING. A lot of these recipes don't even use a healthy monounsaturated fat such as olive oil. They use that cholesterol-booster we call butter! And the "bonus" chapter of recipes includes no nutrition information at ALL. Healthy? 'Fat' chance.

The book claims you can lose weight but at nearly 1,000 calories and 3 days' worth of fat in one meal, I fail to see how. If you're interested in healthy eating, stop reading after page 88. Or skip this book entirely and try "The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Mediterranean Diet."

Never got to use it. 28 Sep 2011

We decided to go a different diet route. Glancing through the book it appeared to offer some great dishes even if you're not dieting.
